Bigger is better at Buca di Beppo. The original restaurant opened in 1993, in a Minneapolis basement (the name literally means "Joe's Basement"), and quickly became known for its overflowing platters of Italian standards and boisterous party atmosphere. Now, at the Pittsburgh location, small Caesar salads serve four, and heaping bowls of pasta are smothered in marinara and three-pound meatballs (yes, really). Giant pizzas, giant pasta platters, giant loaves of garlic bread and giant salads keep the crowds just as big.
A 1950s-style Italian motif plays out in the dining room, which is filled to bursting with black-and-white photographs, Christmas lights, religious paraphernalia and reminders of the mother country. As you might expect, Buca di Beppo draws a wide range of patrons. After all, everyone can appreciate good-quality fare that doesn't skimp on the quantity.

GOOD AND PLENTY
Every entree we tried was delious and more than enough for our family.
Add CommentHow did this place make it?
Dark, dingy, and the portions are not as specified. I.E. you can order family portions for three but only get two pieces of whatever. Went twice, but don't expect to strike out with three.
Money machine

It's no accident that dinner doesn't come with salad; they hope you'll buy one for $8. There are no accidents here. Everything was planned at corporate headquarters by business types, who hope folksy Italian pictures and music will distract you from the tab. Food is very good, four stars. Prices and phony ambiance deserve one star. There can be a long wait Friday and Saturday night.
Very fun
Went with friends recently and we LOVED it!!! The atmosphere was super and the service was EXCELLENT! Our waiter was excellent at making sure we had enough food without being wasteful since we were staying at a hotel and couldn't store extras.
I'd definately recommend this establishment!
And don't skip the meatballs...they are SUPERB!.

went to the robinson location and the food was great . everything was great and we will come back
Perfecto!!!
Superb dining experience, Warm, friendly atmosphere. Menu well rounded for all tastes. For the newcomer... all menu items are large portions for "group sharing". The only question.... WHY ARE SUCH WONDERFUL ESTABLISHMENTS ALWAYS SOOO SMALL?
Love this place...
After you are finished reading these reviews, call Buca to reserve the kitchen table. The wait will be long, but SOOOO worth it!
For those of you who have not gone before, please note, the menu is homestyle, which means, if you order a large spaghetti, you are going to get about 2 lbs of the garlic'y good stuff heaped onto one plate. This goes for all items on the menu. The first time my husband and I went, we did not know this and ordered far more than we needed.
Going with a group of friends makes it more econmical (opt for the Pope room if you go in large numbers) but you won't have lots of leftovers to take home as if you went as part of a couple.
Do make sure to snoop around the kitchen on your way to the bathroom... The kitchen staff loves it and condones it. Ladies, don't forget to stop in the men's restroom to get a look at the charming pictures.Wonderful experience
Wonderful place to take family and friends with big appetites and are not afraid of sharing. The food and service is top notch. I recomend to all to go at least once to experince the food and atmosphere.
