The Scoop: The consummate neighborhood, Italian bakery. Isgro's is where everyone goes for special-occasion cakes and pastries -- whether it's a boozy Italian rum cake for Uncle Phil's birthday, a few pounds of assorted cookies for brunch, a delicately adorned sheet cake for baby's christening or braided breads for Easter. And while the traditional pastries are top notch, Isgro's also sells super-elegant and equally decadent specialty pastries, including a chocolate coffee cup filled with white chocolate mousse, cream-stuffed cakes that look exactly like whole ripe peaches, a raspberry-and-chocolate ganache wonder, and tiramisu, for example. Warning: These things will make your knees buckle.

The Scene: Once you've been to Isgro's, you'll keep going back -- even if you have to travel long distances to do it. It's the kind of place that bakes tradition and a down-home, welcome feeling into each bite. Prices are no bargain, but the quality and selection make it worth it.

Insider Tip: Isgro's is usually hopping, but never more so than in the days directly preceding a holiday, and the owners accommodate the around-the-block-and-up-the-side-street crowds with longer hours, more staff and parking at a nearby lot.

Everything at ISGRO'S is too, too tasty for our own good. Limit yourself before you enter, because the smell and beauty of all the offerings can carry you away. Yes, the place is that good!

  • Awesome Fruit & Nut Biscotti

    Review rating : 5out of 5   gdmom4ever - 05/20/2008

Everything they make is delicious and the presentation makes it all irresistible! My all time favorite any time of the year is the FRUIT AND NUT BISCOTTI. In fact if anyone from my family is reading this, I would love to have them as a gift for any occasion! Whenever I have them in the house I hide them. I don't want to share them with anyone. You will not be disappointed. Worth the trip. I noticed earlier posts mentioned they are pricey. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. If you are happy with run of the mill baked goods then go to your local supermarket. If you want quality go to ISGROS!!!!!!!
