If you were to build a diner with the tools from your Sims game, it would probably look like the Dining Car, a shiny silver-and-black box with big, frosted Art Deco windows and lots of red-glowing glass blocks. The inside of this Northeast Philadelphia landmark retains the same kitschy, retro feel, and it serves up a fairly standard diner menu. The spot attracts the gamut of locals, from families to teenagers on a date to, especially, empty-nesters enjoying some hard-earned couple time. The menu is a manageable size, offering sandwiches, cold platters and above-standard treatments of entrees such as hot turkey, baked ham and strip-steak platters. A favorite: the huge and incredibly rich and cheesy crock of French onion soup. The Dining Car also is known for its desserts, like apple-walnut pie, Jewish apple cake and -- get this -- two-layer chocolate-covered cheesecake (oh, my). Service is friendly and relaxed, and on weekend nights and Sunday mornings, expect to wait for a seat.

Great eats!!! Wonderful service, at least 98% of the time. Homemade food and plenty of desserts. I would recommend the Dining Car to anyone. I go always.

Some of the reviews I've read here must have a personal grudge. I've been eating at the D-Car for over 20 years and its a rare day that the service and quality are not acceptable. At times, they can be excellent. I've even made a point of making the Dining Car my first stop in town after getting off the plane from Europe, just so that I still have a good basis of comparison and the D-car is always respectable.

too much sauce on food. not very clean. staff took too long to wait on us. had to go to atm to pay cash. here's a clue: if you want to make money, take more forms of payment!

It dooesn't get much worse than the Dining Car! I got a big kick out of some of their other reviews - which were obviously written by their own staff members and friends. The food here is unbelievably mediocre, the coffee horrible, and the staff, disinterested and non-caring, except for a couple of rare exceptions. The only reason this place draws patrons is that there isn't any competition for miles around.

I have been going to the Dining Car since I was a young girl. I even remember it at the old location and Torresdale Diner.
You can go there for a snadwich or else a full meal. I do not think there is any bad on the menu. THe secret meal that is back on the menu is Chicken Philly it is a rich creamy treat that never lets you down.

Breakfast 24 hours is yummy! The creamed chipped beef with homefries is heaven on a platter!
Desserts are awesome and freshly baked. Get a slice a apple walnut pie ask them to warm it up a little. It is an orgasm in your mouth.

As for the people complaining about Credit Cards it is on the door and the menu pay attention! People!
