Northeast Philadelphia has a real love/hate relationship with the Country Club. Those who hate it take offense at the sometimes gruff service and higher-than-diner prices. But those whose love it know that the food is top notch and the menu is extensive, incorporating everything you would expect from a diner right alongside some more upscale specialties and lots of treats catering to the tastes of its many Jewish patrons. Among those offerings are authentic matzoth ball soup, wildly popular galumpkis (stuffed cabbage), brisket and knishes. The Country Club isn't a romantic place; it's better suited to a family outing (the wait staff loves kids) or dinner with pals. But you'll see lots of older couples -- who have been eating there for 40 years -- holding hands over their plates of London broil or chopped liver appetizers. There are great early-bird deals, as well as daily specials that usually turn out to be pretty special. Don't forget to order dessert or stop by the pastry counter for a take-home treat. The pastries at CC are incredible.

nice remodeling
I live near the diner and go there whenever i can great food and the best Jewish Apple cake ever.
Add CommentMiss the old style but love the remodel
My sister lives right around the corner and I always take the earliest flight of the day so that her and I can go to breakfast. I do miss the old style that was stuck in time however the remodel is roomie and allows for better flow. And who liked walking down those steeps stairs to the restrooms????
The food is good and I have never had bad service or bad food. I can see how people who have gone there more then my 8 years can be a bit sad for what has gone, the spirit of the original owners has been replaced but for me I like it! And makes for a great start of a visit with my sister. Not as good as it used to be
They used to have better food.. Things have changed now that it is has changed owners.. The soup is still good.. But i have had better diner food..
it has changed
I worked at Country Club 40 yrs ago When the Perloff family owned it . The Menu was creative ,food was good the place was a treat to visit. But as the Northeast has changed so has Country Club. It is now owned by a chain of diners, Not what you remember, but its ok, Mr. Perloff was a hands on owner , we miss him, he was what made the place so good.

was very good, got bad, now ugh!
WENT THERE WHEN A KID AND IT WAS VERY GOOD. OVER THE YEARS THE QUALITY DECLINED TO NOT GOOD. WENT THERE A FEW WEEKS AGO(BECAUSE OF NEW OWNERSHIP) HOPING IT WOULD BE BETTER. ASKED THE WAITER WHAT WAS GOOD. HE REPLIED"I DON'T EAT HERE". I NOW KNOW WHY. I DON'T EAT THERE NOW EITHER. THE FOOD WAS BAD AND THE SERVICE WAS WORSE (BUT TRUTHFUL)
