Step off Walnut Street into Alma de Cuba and you have a decision to make. There is a heady vibe to this pre-Castro Cuban themed venue that you may opt to observe and enjoy. But, better still, indulge your senses and allow yourself to become a part of the scene. The white jacketed waiters - think young Ricky Ricardo - the music, ceiling fans, palm trees all add up to make this the sexiest of Starr's restaurants. But beyond the style is the substance of the dining experience at Alma de Cuba. Have a passion for ceviche? You may order 1, 3, 5, or 7 of the most extraordinary - and best ceviche in Philadelphia. The rest of the extensive (and very descriptive) menu includes wonderful soups, salads and a wide variety of entrees(fish, shellfish, beef, chicken, vegetables). The dessert menu offerings are worth saving room for - I had a creamy tapioca pudding served in a coconut with oatmeal guava bars. The wait staff are professionals who know the food and how to serve you. I was fortunate enough to go on an evening when Randall (of Morimoto fame)was managing the establishment. No one is better at "getting it right" when it comes to the details that raise a good dining experience to a great one.

Fun place to go out on a date. All of the fish dishes are well prepared especially the chilean sea bass.

A really great place! The atmosphere is great and we just loved the lounge area and music. We had a late drink and dessert. The orange spice icecream is amazing. We had a little incident that our waiter handled perfectly. The person seated next to us bumped into our table as he got up to leave and half a drink went flying. Our waiter cleaned it up immediately and two minutes later came back with the shaker and topped off the glass. I know this is as it should be, but I've been places where you the staff have problems just getting the order right. I'm looking forward to going for the full meal next time.

I went for a birthday and was really impressed. The black bean dip they brought when we sat down was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken soup app. was so full of flavor I was hoping the bowl was bottomless. The main course was tender it practically melted in my mouth.
Our server was helpful and accomadating. All in all I had a wonderful experience and would go back again.

Good service, nice atmosphere, below average and highly-overpriced food. If the prices weren't stratosheric, people might realize how ordinary the cuisine really is.

Met a date there. Lovely lounge, friendly bartender and patrons. Dining room upstairs was beautifully furnished and comfortable. Dinner was flavorful and presented well. The waitress was attentive and great at suggesting dishes as well as wine. Had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and will definitely return!
