Once a gas station and now a colorful local hangout, Yam Yam's is the place to go if you want good, rich Southern fare. The modest, somewhat fast food interior is offset by homey touches such as sprigged wallpaper, glass-covered white tablecloths, fabric on the lampshades and a community bulletin board. But folks don't come here for the looks (or for cheery service); peek outside the front window to see the secret to Yam Yam's success -- a huge, take-no-prisoners barbecue oven, stoked and glowing. Out of that yawning maw come some of the tastiest eats this side of Alabama. Yam Yam's offers the traditional variety of ribs, sandwiches, chicken baskets and seafood dinners, complemented by a great range of sides. If you really want to show your aorta who's boss, come for the Sunday all-you-can-eat buffet; it's guaranteed to leave you groaning. -- Carla Mortensen

    I'm a BBQ fanatic! I have tried dozens of northwest BBQ joints and have gone to Texas to try it authentic style. So when I kept hearing about Yam Yam's on MLK, I knew I had to try it. When I got there I thought maybe they had gone out of bussiness or were moving. The place was dimly lit and chairs were stacked and laying down around. Countertop had more cluttered garbage on it. No sign of employees anywhere, and just when I was about to leave some kid came out of the back. He didn't say much(no "can I help you?" ) just blank stare. After a sureal ordering experience I found the food to be poor at best. How do these guys stay in business? Cleanliness, let's not even go there.

    Well as an employee of Yam Yams its all about the food, Im Proud to make such good food, Food that is filling in everyway. So I just want to say thank you to all the people who come in and enjoy them self and just like to sit back and chill and have a good time. Thank you.

    terrible,terrible,terrible.food was mediocre.bbq tasted like it came out of a jar, side dishes was nothing to rave about. the worst part was the service and the uncleaniness in the kitchen.i should've left once i saw how filthy it looked over the counter.this place is definitely a thumbs down. i can't understand how this place can stay in business. i usually give excellent to good reviews to places i've been and after reading other peoples reviews. this one is the first for me to mark a poor review.heres a tip. work on better custer service. remember, please your customers, not the other way around.

    Just wanted to say that Yam Yams has great BBQ And The best Mac & Chesse in Portland Hands down.
    The staff was very friendly and helpful with your selection. We will be back

    love yam yam's, the ribs are superior! gonna try the all you can eat on sunday this week. can't go wrong here.
