Robust defines the menu at Serratto's. Thomas McLaughlin (previously chef at Caffe Mingo and most recently Lucy's Table) commands the kitchen, turning out classic Italian dishes with slight twists and variations. The mood is slow but not listless in the rustic yet classy dining room, which boasts expansive windows and a gorgeous wood floor.

The wine list is ample and varied, leaning toward Piedmont and Tuscany, including a few notable Oregon wines. Start with the beet salad: sliced beets, flavorful arugula, grilled pear, and shaved ricotta salata spritzed with a sherry vinaigrette. The white bean salad, sea scallops and cauliflower soup are also popular primi. Entrees are first-rate with a rapturous tagliatelle; braised rabbit with white wine, fennel, leeks and herbs. The quail is another delicious option; seasoned and pan-seared, served with polenta, caramelized onion, dried cherry and port jus -- a hearty, warm meal well-paired with a full-bodied red wine.

If dessert is an option, the seasonal fruit crostata, Frangelico chocolate mousse cake and sorbet are all wonderful. Numerous flights of Italian wines are offered at night on a semi-regular basis -- stop by for serene sipping. -- Liz Crain
