No-frills eatery serves up giant steak in a setting so laid-back, it seems like a family room.
Since 1946, Sayler's Old Country Kitchen has been famous for the quality dinners and the friendliness of their service. You won't find pretense or special themes at this steakhouse, just fine dining. You will, of course, find prime and choice aged beef, exceptional seafood and home style chicken. Sayler's are always glad to have you and your family and we hope you enjoy the great American meal.

Since 1946, Portlanders have lined up for this steak joint with a family-room vibe. Patterned blue carpet covers the floors, and a colorful mural of friendly faces blankets one wall. The real star here is the meat, from a six-ounce filet mignon to the 72-ounce top sirloin. Baked, sauteed and fried seafood options are also available. Entrees come with bread and a relish tray; soup, salad or slaw; fries, baked potato or rice; and dessert.

Sayler's doesn't take reservations, but if your party is large, the restaurant will sometimes make an exception on a slower night.
The Extras
The 72-ounce steak is free--if you can eat it within 60 minutes, along with all the trimmings. Otherwise, it's $50. This only applies on weekdays and the rules are many and strict, so ask for a copy of them before you attempt it.

I ate here in the 60's when I was in college at the University of Portland one of the Prof. ate the 72oz. steaks in less than one hour so got it free. He later did it again and asked for 2nd's he was orderd by the school to Not do it again! They thought it looked bad as he was a priest.

keenz8797 - 01/28/2007this is my favorite place to go for the last 40 years. My grandma would pick me up on sundays and we had to go there. I live across the state now, but it is always at the top of my list when i get to the city. There steaks are wonderful and the seafood is fantastic, and they make a mean martini. What i love is the smells and tastes have never changed in all the years. and my favorite waitress is imortalized in the mural on the back wall. keep up the great work you guys are awesome.

usidbaeif - 12/28/2006Old Country Kitchen is the place to go for a great steak dinner. You will get you're steak, potatoe, veg, relish tray, drink, and desert for one great price. From a 6 oz steak dinner to the 72 oz. dinner. It has something for everyone.
