Peering up at the arched wood ceiling of this modern industrial space, it's hard to imagine it was once held a chain grocery store. Cork floors, warm colors and an inviting dining counter open to the kitchen make it easy to forget. Well-spaced dining tables filled with hip young couples, neighborhood foursomes and families adds to the comfort factor, as does the reputation that preceeds chefs, Cathy Whims (former chef/owner of the famed Genoa) and Deb Accuardi (co-owner of Gino's). The full-service pizzeria integrates locally-sourced ingredients into menu of pastas, pizzas and grill and rotisserie meat entrees. Choice antipasti picks include cured meat platters, bruschetta and the marinated fried squash. The thin, cracker-like crusted pizzas include standards like seafood or mushroom, and the La Dolce Vita with caramelized onions, gorgonzola dolce and anchovies. The dependable wine list encompasses most Italian regions, and a few picks from the Pacific Northwest.

  • New, creative menu each time

I love their pizzas--especially when they have a mushroom one that comes right out of the giant brick, wood burning oven...yum.
They do come small, great as a shared appetizer for two.
Also fun to sit at the bar with a close view of the pizza-dough tossers.
The only thing that kept me from giving a 5-star is that the last entree I ordered was a mixed seafood dish--tuna was too dry on outside, rare on the outside; prawns were strangely undercooked...not what I expected from my favorite Portland restaurant. Everything else has been magnificent.

  • Service and Portions, Small

    Review rating : 1out of 5   dlh4image - 01/22/2006

We visited tonight after reading about the place in Portland Magazine. Arrived around 5 ( we were one of the first groups there). After ordering, we waited for our waiter to take orders from other tables before he put our order in. We were one of the last tables served. When we were served the food portions ( except the Pizza) were small and over priced. The Pasta and Canelloni tasted okay , but the chicken dish was undercooked and lacked much flavor. The bottom line is we will never go there again and would never recccomend this place to anyone. There are many choices of places to eat, so avoid this one.

  • Good but stingy

After three visits, I can honestly say the food is good but portions sizes are small. The pizza is the best bet here...though you'll wish there was more of it.
