The Nob Hill Bar & Grill is a bit of a needed reality check wedged between trendy eateries, hip stores and upscale fashion outlets along ultra-chic 23rd Avenue. It's a good old neighborhood pub right in the middle of Portland's historic Nob Hill district. The decor is simple and relaxing, drawing a colorful mixture of locals, college students and hospital staff from Good Samaritan Medical Center, located across the street. The Nob Hill Bar and Grill has been a Northwest Portland mainstay for over 50 years. Their Good Sam Burgers -- delicious medleys of beef, special sauce and lettuce and tomato -- are a local legend. -- Joe Kurmaskie

    The hamburger as it should be. Not the mass produced concoctions of today. For Old Ducks, the onion rings are close to the old Pad's in Eugene.

    Those of us who have lived nearby for 30 years know its real name is Nobbies. Their burgers are fantastic, but I will not tell you the best thing on the menu since I don't want them to run out ever again. Smoke-free until 3 PM. Snobs will get the service they deserve.

    A hardy burger served up with a secret sauce that only Greg the owner knows providing a good portion and a good value for your money all served in a warm comfortable neighborhood pub atmosphere which makes "Nobbys" the place where real Northwest Portlanders go for their burgers and beers.
