The Laurelwood Public House & Brewery took a cue from the building's former tenants, the Old World Pub. The Laurelwood wisely hired the Old World's brew meister Christian Ettinger, ensuring that quality ales continue to be a fixture at the establishment. Owners Mike and Cathy Woo De Kalb have made a point of adding those touches that Rose City patrons have come to expect from successful pubs. The Laurelwood features a play area for kids where the pool tables once stood, warmer interior decor courtesy of a paint job and brighter wall hangings and more booths to accommodate relaxed eating and drinking. There's still ample pub flavor to the joint, but families and food snobs can come in and get an upscale meal of pasta or barbecued salmon. Don't worry though; brew house favorites like chicken sandwiches and burgers are still available. And if you are wondering if the city formed a new district when you weren't paying attention, the name Laurelwood is a combination of the owners' home neighborhood (Laurelhurst) and the pub's Hollywood locale.
