If Andy Warhol lived in Portland, this is where he would hang out. Located on a deserted stretch of inner southeast, this warehouse space is pure industrial chic, with nothing makeshift or lowbrow about it. The multi-functional arena is divided into four chic urban quadrants. Each is designed for a specific entertainment purpose, including the ventilated room for smokers.
In the multi-level main room, couches and low tables are strategically grouped. Walls are left intentionally white and blank so they can double as screens for projection. Even the smoking room is adorned with rotating art installations. Electronic music is the main focus of this venue, but house, techno, rock and jazz make regular appearances. There's a separate performance room in the back for major events and dancing, and the lounge hosts everything from live bands and DJs to theater performances, multimedia installations, and fashion shows. The full bar features a snazzy specialty cocktails with mint and cucumbers.
Diners will want to head for the "living room," a below level dining area where they can indulge in delicious, quality small plates of olives and nuts, artisan breads with butter, walnut and goat cheese spreads; salmon cakes; ham and sausages with crackers and gourmet mustards; and beet and horseradish-cured salmon with housemade herb cheese. Heartier fare includes potatoes and root veggies with Indian spices, mushroom and fontina tartlets, hazelnut crepe with chicken and farmhouse gouda and herb-salt encrusted lamb. Tantalizing cocktails like their signature "Piaf" (a blend of vodka, cucumber and pineapple) combines with the live music and DJs to seduce you into making this an all-night affair. -- Anne Marie DiStefano and Jo Ostgarden
