Started decades ago by the late Thomas Lacono -- an oil portrait of him hangs on the wall at the Ohio State location -- Tommy's makes what many locals will claim is the best pizza in the known universe. The full-service menu includes all permutations and sizes of pizza, as well as subs and sandwiches, appetizers, salads and sides. Italian dinners run the gamut from gnocchi to spaghetti. Gridiron glory is inevitable here: Photos and memorabilia of local Big Ten heroes can be found amid wallpaper with symbols of the State of Ohio, buckeyes and footballs. Nor can you miss the exterior: It's scarlet and gray, the same school colors used to decorate the inside. --

    We live in Toledo and get to Columbus a few times a year. We NEVER leave Columbus without a couple of extra-cheese subs. We were students at OSU in the '70s and now our children are OSU students and they too, understand that Tommy's is the best!

    I now live in Michigan. Last time back to Ohio we stopped in and had a pie. The pizza is EXACTLY as it was when I drove my 1960 MGA to get it every Friday night for my buddies. The original Lane ave location has been updated but the recipes are exactly the same and a welcome memory to my palate. The subs are to die for as well.

    I live in Mansfield now where there is NO good pizza. When I get to Columbus I order extra, bring it home an freeze it. I've been going there for 40 years (even worked there as a teen) and my mouth salivates at the thought of an ********* pizza, sizzling over that yummy cracker crust. There is nothing better! Perfection!!
