Where's the beef, you say? It's here at The Clarmont. Established in the 1950s, this eatery has earned its chops by maintaining a unique and unchanging ambience. The menu is solid retro fare: steaks, lamb, veal, pork, surf 'n' turf and seafood such as scallops and shrimp. A favorite, chicken in a clay pot with mashed potatoes and vegetables, is only available until "it's gone." However, some 21st-century concessions have been made, including the addition of pasta and expansion of the wine list. Servers, some of whom have been there for decades, take down orders without pencil or paper and feel perfectly comfortable asking whatever personal question comes to mind. The Clarmont remains the businessperson's prime spot for that power breakfast and lunch. Dinner, on the other hand, adds some demographic spice with theatergoers (call ahead and they'll make sure you make curtain time), out-of-towners and assorted locals.

richally3 - 09/09/2007I've been eating at the Clarmont since 1949. My late husband and I always went there for our wedding anniversaries. I still go there, but not quite as often. I also buy their gift certificates for friends birthdays.
Best Lobster Bisque
sengle1124 - 02/27/2007The Clarmont is one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus. I must also add, as a business traveler, I have the opportunity to dine out often. The Lobster Bisque served at The Clarmont is the best! I have searched many notable (seafood) restaurants in Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island and cannot find a better Bisque!

Never had a bad meal here
catnow6 - 09/20/2005I'ts a bit pricey but you can count on good quality and taste at this well established retaurant. If you're hungry and you're anywhere near downtown, its a sure bet! Look for discount coupons in phone books and the entertainment book.

bobcat6971 - 04/21/2003We had Easter reservations for five at 2:00. We were not seated until 2:35. We were not talked to by a wait person until twelve minutes later. No water, drinks, rolls, or anything until a half hour after being seated. The couple next to us was seated after us and served before us. No food until an HOUR after being seated. The maitre'd was lazy and rude. They were 50 people behind (in the lobby) the entire time we were there. I had to tell the waitress three times that I would take the check and to put all of them on one check. When a very old gentleman told the maitre'd "You should be ashamed of yourself," the reply was "Oh well." Nice attitude. We won't be going back. Just an awful experience, and we have been there several times. No excuse for being 50 people and over a half hour behind on reservations on a major holiday.
