Sometimes you want to eat at a nice place. Other times you just want a burger and fries. Heck's Cafe in Ohio City affords the opportunity for those worlds to collide. Surrounded by more uppity, trendy places, Heck's isn't exactly a burger joint, but you can certainly get a burger there, and a good one. But there's so much more. The tournados alouette -- steak stuffed with sour cream sauce -- is always a crowd pleaser. A variety of sandwiches and pastas are on the menu, for those not wanting to go the burger route. Over-sized salads can also provide a hearty meal, for anyone wanting to avoid meat altogether. With just about any order, though, you should at least try the French fries with malted vinegar on the side. Brunch is available on weekends, with Heck's stuffed French toast -- one of the more popular specialties in the Cleveland area. -- Todd Stumpf

  • Hecks? Oh please

How did Heck's get in this list? Nostalgia? I was there a few month's back and had a burger that was mediocre at best. I won't go back. Lolita's in Tremont has THE best burger in town, hands down.

I almost fell out of my chair with nostalgic delight when I saw the Heck's name here. I have the fondest of memories of that wonderful restaurant. Not just because of the friends with whom I had the pleasure of sharing dinner, but the food!! I have been away from my birth place in Ohio (Akron) for 16 years but I haven't forgotten Heck's. They offer an escargot dish over linguini that is amazing with walnuts, and balsamic and raspberry vinegars, delicious, not the usual butter and garlic escargot by a long shot! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner one night many years ago here in a club in Fort Lauderdale and he shared that recipe. I am sure they have maintained that quaint and charming restaurant and it is still THE PLACE! A real jewel in Ohio City!! Kudos!

Always friendly, always delicious!! The Rocky River Burger is the bomb!
The deserts are mighty good, also. Take a try, you won't be sorry.

  • Was the best back in the 70s, not anymore

    Review rating : 1out of 5   Maizitis - 06/06/2008

Was the best back in the 70s, not anymore .... we went a short time ago and were served some of the most mediocre burgers. These ratings are so biased. Why don't we see good burger places like Brecksville's Courtyard, North Royalton's 82nd Street Bar & Grill (formerly Main Street Bar & Grille), and Parma's Fox and Hound. So much better and great service. Down with these biased ratings on AOL!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   daniiii1234 - 03/09/2007

It is almost indescribable. Food is excellent. Service is very friendly. And the atmosphere is unbelievably different. Great garden room experience that takes you beyond a regular restaurant experience. Believe me it is worth it to go and experience a great place to eat.
