There are a lot of places in Cincy to get good ribs, but the Montgomery Inn is by far the most popular. The favorite dish seems to be Pigs in a Pocket, served with Saratoga chips. This is rib meat smothered in sauce on a pita, served with extra-thick potato chips -- with barbecue sauce for dipping. The ribs here are served with a sauce that is decidedly less sweet and is also sold in grocery stores, locally. Ted Gregory's special ribs are also available at his Boathouse location, as well as at Paramount's King Island and Coney Island. -- Ray Powers

But then, over time most things are not as good as we remembered - like White Castles.

I must admit growing up in Montgomery I enjoyed Montgomery Inn when I was a kid (I am 46 now). However, over the years this place had continually declined in service and quality. I took my brother who now lives out of State there the other night and it was the worst EVER. The ribs were DRY, overcooked, and cold!! Years ago the Saratoga chips used to be served hot....they were special as they were also soft. Nowadays they might as well just serve potato chips....they are cold and hard! I cannot imagine how any restaurant these days continues to propser when the food is terrible! Ted Gregory must be rolling over in his grave.

Went to dinner late last night with my college aged son. He had duck, I had a filet. Duck was delightful, filet cooked to perfection, everyone seemed to be having a great time. We were treated great. I don't understand all the griping, I have been there many times, it is always excellent. you can order the sauce on the side! It seems to me the serving staff always works with you, ask if you aren't sure!

  • "Fake" ribs.

    Review rating : 1out of 5   smfcpa - 06/28/2007

Let's admit it, folks, Montgomery Inn ribs are NOT real barbecue. The ribs are boiled first, then they are put on a grill and "finished." They never see even a whisp of real barbecue smoke. They suck. And their "crabcakes" are even worse. You will never find even a single piece of lump crab in them. All they are is shredded shards of crab meat overshadowed by breadcrumb filling. They should more accurately describe them on the menu as "Overpriced Deviled Crab."

  • OVERRATED!!!!

Can anyone admit that Mont. Inn Sucks. It's nothing to right home about. I do not mention Montgomery Inn as a Cincinnati favorite....primarily due to embarrassment. I would never recommend. The food is OK, the service is adequate. The only plus is location. Local BBQ restaurants will beat the pants off Mont. Inn every time.

  • Disappointing

    Review rating : 1out of 5   pmanine - 05/16/2007

Before we moved here we heard (from Cincinnati people) how great these ribs are. Tried them, hated them. They are tough, mediocre sauce poured over the top of them, plus very expensive. Another hometown favorite that doesn't live up to the hype. People here need to travel to other places to find out what good food is. Try Texas Roadhouse Grill for ribs that are not steamed, with great flavor and fall off the bones. FYI, "Cincinnati Chili" is not REAL Chili, either!
