Harkening back to the 1950s, when drive-in restaurants were everywhere, Swensons offers a vintage dining experience. You don't even have to leave your car to experience some of Northeast Ohio's best burgers. In fact, you can't. Swenson's is 100 percent car-side service, with serves darting throughout the parking lot bringing meals to the mobile dining rooms. While certainly qualifying as fast food in genre, Swensons' fare is far better than that. Its hamburgers are famous throughout the region. Other goodies, such as fried mushrooms, onion rings and potato puffs, are also renowned. For thirst-quenching options, try a California or a Florida -- carbonated fruit concoctions served on crushed ice. A key-lime phosphate or chocolate phosphate may be more to your liking. No matter what you order, Swenson's is at least half about its unique experience. Just pull in, find a parking space and bring your appetite. Oh, and leave your headlights on when you get there. It's how they know you haven't been helped yet.

Sky-Way is better.
Sarabeth516 - 07/25/2008I grew up in Akron. Swenson's is very good. However, it should have come in in second place. First place, without a doubt, should have been the Sky-Way Drive-In, about six miles west, on W. Market Street. It is similar to Swanson's, except that the service and food are much better. Sky-Way has been in its same location since 1957. It has been the place to gather after sporting events at nearby Copley High School (my alma mater, 1962) and other schools. I live 60 miles away now, but make it a point to visit Sky-Way at least three times a month, or more, because their food is absolutely excellent. By the way, Sky-Way's hamburgers, cheeseburgers, home-made onion rings, fried mushrooms, Californians, cherry Cokes, etc. preceded Swanson's by many years. Sky-Way (also a park, be served in your car place) has maintained a loyal group of people who love good food for over 50 years. The place is always crowded. I highly recommend it. Swenson's is okay, but Sky-Way is the absolute best. Ask the hundreds of people who drive there to eat every week, year-round.

I've since moved away from the Akron area, but every time we're back in town, we HAVE to go to Swenson's before we leave town! It's like a tradition. They're just so amazing and so different that it's hard to pass one up! Not only are their burgers good, but their sides are awesome as well, such as their onion rings, fries, and many kinds of shakes!
Swenson's is definitely unlike any other drive-in/fast food burger joint you've ever been to... and it's definitely a good thing!Absolutely the best
Li2ard - 07/25/2008I have been a customer of Swensons since 1963. I have NEVER had a better burger or better service. I no longer live in the Akron area but I will make a trip there just for Swensons. My only gripe? No location in northern Cuyahoga county!
