Oh, you've heard the stories: Two-fisted foodies cramming the Staten Island ferry out into the boonies just for a bite of Denino's thin-crust pie; grown men weeping at the taste of it. Well, rest assured they're true, and rumors of Denino's demise have been greatly exaggerated. This place has been here since nearly the Depression. Inside a regular-looking house with little atmosphere, amidst a boisterous and big (bring a book) crowd that ranges from soccer moms with kids celebrating a birthday to dockworkers -- depending on time of day and blood-alcohol level -- the ovens keep the crispy crusts coming. The most frequently ordered item here is an oddly heavy pie of meatballs, onions, and ricotta: like a meatball sub and a lasagna shaken, stirred and dumped onto a pizza. 'The works' is also popular, though here they call it a 'garbage pie.' No pretense there, or anywhere else here.

I cannot say there has ever been anything that I have ordered at Deninos that wasnt awesome. The appetizers are great, the pizza is perfect and the crowd is fun. The service is ok BUT they kind of have this "God of Pizza" attitude, c'mon guys....I can respect the bravado and the passion for doing what you love but its still pizza, quite possibly the BEST pizza but still pizza. If I feel as if I am being talked down to, or the food hits the table with a thump as the waitress is racing through the dining room (she did slow down just enough that the plate made it at least 2/3rd's of the way on the table) then I feel like I am not appreciated or somewhat neglected.
In these tight penny pinching times, to shell out 20 bucks for 2 bucks worth of ingredients and wait 45 minutes for a table, the pizza better be the best, but so should the service.
Maybe its just me, dont get me wrong, I can be dressed and in the car with it running before the family even finishes the sentence of "Lets go to Denin.....hey, where's dad?" and believe me, I am considering leaving soon after I finish typing this to get a garbage and fried calamari. All I am asking for is a smile and maybe a welcome when I get there. Was expecting more
Finally went to Deninos last nite after living on SI for 10 years.
I tell you, it was good but I dont think it was the best pizza that I ever had.
The fried calamari was good, as good as other places. The pizza with everything on it was good, but if I would have had plain cheese pizza, I dont think it would be that good. I like Brothers better on staten island.
Of course the pizza in Brooklyn is much better, almost everwhere you go.
But opinions are like you know what, everybody has one...
Probably wont be going back any time soon, though I wouldnt count it out..Denino's ...
Denino's is awesome, they have great pies......much better than Brothers Pizza or Joe and Pat's (which is all taste)....and the people at Deninos are a much nicer crowd.
There is a reason why, they have been there aslong as they haveNot the best thin crusted pizza
While alot of people rave about Denino's thin crusted pizza, Joe and Pat's thin crusted pie is much, much better. Go to Joe and Pat's yourself and compare. You will not be sorry !!
