You never know what you're going to get here -- bluegrass? free jazz? Balinese funk? But chances are it'll be worth hearing. Named after the late Joseph Papp, founder of the adjoining Public Theater, Joe's Pub serves as both an intimate showcase for major acts and a platform for up-and-comers. Occasionally this eclecticism can seem bizarre -- it's disorienting to see a Brazilian-folk crowd clear out while the spoken-word punk act sets up onstage -- but mostly it serves as a happy reminder of New York City's melting pot of sounds and styles. Another plus: Unlike many of the city's edgier venues, Joe's Pub is exceedingly comfortable, with its array of cafe tables and plush banquettes. (This point, however, is moot during crowded-to-the-gills, sold-out sets.)

I was happy to discover this place on St. Patrick's Day evening. What a fun party! I always look forward to to receiving the latest e-mails advising me of the latest talent showing for weeks to come. Various age friendly and decent food too!

Great, Intimate Club to Experience Live Performances
LLOYDGC - 06/03/2008With the demise of the Bottom Line, Joe's Pub has become even more of a standout relative to intimate places to see live performances in NY. My wife and I have been to Joe's Pub many times and have consistently had a good time - whether to experience singers or dancers. In addition, as one reviewer has already said, this place has a wonderfully eclectic schedule of performers. Joe's Pub would definitely appear on my "top ten" list of New York places to visit - and it's Number One in terms of live music venues.

djevildee - 05/23/2005Sunday Night at Joe's Pub are incredible. Dj Evil D and his friends play a nice mix of music. He even played tv show themes. I could not stop dancing.
