An oasis of class in a crowded field of rowdy comedy clubs.
Gotham Comedy Club features the country's top headliners and up and coming comics. Drawing upon the charm and ambiance of the 1920's to capture the spirit of an upscale theater environment, this relaxed and comfortable venue has hosted talent such as Dave Chappelle, Lewis Black & Colin Quinn, to name a few. Gotham Comedy Club has become the backdrop for many TV shows and films such as Jerry Seinfeld's 2002 Miramax film "Comedian", Larry David's pilot of "Curb Your Enthusiasm", and home to Comedy Central's "Live at Gotham". "Live at Gotham" features the country's hottest comedians doing fresh stand-up with Celebrity hosts such as Artie Lange & Jim Breuer. NBC's Emmy-nominated series "Last Comic Standing" brings their dueling comedians to Gotham's stage to duke it out for season 5.

Housed in a landmark Flatiron building, this club prides itself on booking comics who raise the bar of civility without ever losing sight of the main goal: Making you laugh. With bars made of solid oak and copper, subdued lighting and an antique turn-of-the-century bronze chandelier, the graceful, 3,300-square-foot digs create an elegant yet unpretentious tone. Unsurprisingly, you've got to pay for upscale, so Gotham always enforces a two-drink minimum (with food available). But swank also attracts rank, so performers like Jim Gaffigan, Dane Cook and the blisteringly funny Lewis Black are frequent headliners. Even Jerry Seinfeld has been known to stop by unannounced for a set. In addition to headliner shows, programming includes regular rotating shows, sketch comedy and new-talent nights.

Add CommentWorth every cent

I consider myself a connoisseur of all things NYC and Gotham Comedy Club definitely makes it into my top ten. Gotham is somewhat pricey but you'll get your money's worth: no sticky tables or dingy showroom -- this place is all class. They seem to really care about their customers and even have excellent, professional security to make sure no obnoxious customers try to (drunkenly) "participate" in the show. This place respects comedy and they do it right -- don't go if you're looking for a place to chat! Gotham works hard to ensure you'll see a good, uninterrupted show (translation: you'll get (politely) kicked out if you ruin it for other customers!).
Very Very Good
I have attended Gotham several times during the past year and find the comics put in 101% trying to make you laugh. Their fundraisers and attempts to incorporate the media into their programs make it a worthwhile adventure. With the price of gas at almost $5 a gallon, the admission to Gotham is very fair. It is better than staying home and watching reruns on tv. Everyone has to start somewhere, so give the comics a break.
Best in city

I have visited Gotham many many times and have always been happy. The club is clean and well run and I have even seen top comedians Jerry Seinfeld and Dave Chappel each who just dropped in on shows as surprise guests. The comedians have to walk through the public area of the club to get on stage which occasionally allows you to meet them in person
VERY RUDE STAFF 8/25/2007
we recently went to this comedy club. the staff was terrible and the manager is just as rude. we would the comedians we ok. we would never attend this establishment again
Horrible Staff

i recently visited this comedy club and although the comedians were extremely funny . . . the host as well as the waitress were unbelieveably RUDE! When we first arrived the host was unable to find our reservation . . instead of trying to resolve the situation and be accomodating he basically suggested that we lied about the reservation, "i am not going to tell you your a liar to your face but . . . you arent on the list and so i dont know what else to tell you" and when he did find the reservation did not apologize or try to make up for his rude comment at all. when we finally were seated our waitress was so rude and nasty that i was afraid to even order food from the kitchen or a drink for that matter in fear of what might happen to it on the way to my table. anything i ordered or had asked for she rolled her eyes.
not funny
I was very disappointed with this comedy club, especially since it is rated #1. Only 1 comedian was funny. The main "star", Adam Ferrara, was so boring, my boyfriend fell asleep. Not worth $20 cover. Laugh Factory is way better.
