Know what New York needs right now? Another faux speakeasy (pleased to meet you, Milk and Honey, Little Branch, Back Room and East Side Company Bar) with an open-secret entrance and painstakingly constructed retro cocktails. At least that's what the owners of Blue Owl -- a subterranean bar slyly identifying itself only with a big, blue neon owl sign -- are wagering. The interior is small, dimly lit and decorated in standard-issue lounge fashion: Copper bar, exposed brick and gaudy banquettes. Blue Owl's cocktails, however, are exceptional. The Bobby Burns, for example, mixes Scotch, vermouth, Benedictine and a dash of bitters, for a combination that has none of scotch's usually overbearing taste. At $12 a pop, the drinks are more prohibitive than Prohibition, but are worthwhile for those with deep pockets and/or expense accounts. The bar also has a private room that can be booked for parties; when you rent it, a doorman posted outside requires your attendees to proffer a secret password for entrance.

    Ok..so i like to think of myself as a bit of a happy hour connoisseur, seking and finding free drinks, cheap food, and great atmospheres all over this city.

    I am proud to say that Blue Owl has made the short list of my new favorite happy hour spots.

    While it's not much of a party place, I came with one other person and enjoyed some of the best, and cheapest cocktails I've had in awhile. the Blueberry Mojito was truly delicious.

    happy hour is from 5-8. GO!

    I finally found a nice spot that has an consistently amazing happy hour. The drinks at Blue Owl and great and the atmosphere is hip yet classy. Check it out!

    Blue Owl is wonderful. You can't beat their happy hour and the drinks are always amazing. If your looking for a great atmosphere to have a great drink, this is the place!!

    After attending a friend's birthday party at Blue Owl this past Saturday night i loved it so much i had to write a review! How another reviewer could have called this place gross is literally beyond comprehension.

    With its beautifully ornate decorations, charmingly handsome staff, and DELICIOUS cocktails, Blue Owl was a fantastic place for a party.

    Make sure that when you go you have an Ellison...or three. I did.

    I haven't been this excited about a bar for a long time! The Blue Owl has an outstanding drink list and an excellent hour. If you're looking for a high quality bar Blue Owl is the place you have been searching for.

    If the city is overpopulated with speakeasy's as the editors claim.. I would boot out one of the other ones and definitely keep Blue Owl!!

    The comfy suede chairs, great mood lighting, and nice big bar with lots of seats, have shot this bar to the top of my list!

    The city has plenty of places with an interesting vibe, and there are some inviting places. But this is one of those rarest of bar/lounges that combines both: style and class with a warm, welcoming ambience. The staff is attentive, friendly and professional; the drinks are actually beautifully made, unique and delicious. And the atmosphere is classy and cool. Check out the eclectic mix of sounds - ranging from classics to acid jazz to world beat and everything in between. One of the greatest!

    I walked right past the entrance, but did not give up. Been there a few times. early during the week ensured I got a nice comfortable chair to sit and relax on, and late on the weekend and the energy level was amazing! what a good time. I dont drink alcohol, but they have a virgin mojito drink, thanks Blue Owl. A lot of places dont even carry sparkling bottled water. Anyway. The people there were great, and the music was excellent.....I will be back, again and again, if it continues to be as good as it is!
