Know what New York needs right now? Another faux speakeasy (pleased to meet you, Milk and Honey, Little Branch, Back Room and East Side Company Bar) with an open-secret entrance and painstakingly constructed retro cocktails. At least that's what the owners of Blue Owl -- a subterranean bar slyly identifying itself only with a big, blue neon owl sign -- are wagering. The interior is small, dimly lit and decorated in standard-issue lounge fashion: Copper bar, exposed brick and gaudy banquettes. Blue Owl's cocktails, however, are exceptional. The Bobby Burns, for example, mixes Scotch, vermouth, Benedictine and a dash of bitters, for a combination that has none of scotch's usually overbearing taste. At $12 a pop, the drinks are more prohibitive than Prohibition, but are worthwhile for those with deep pockets and/or expense accounts. The bar also has a private room that can be booked for parties; when you rent it, a doorman posted outside requires your attendees to proffer a secret password for entrance.

Worst place ever....
Blue Owl is the grossest place I have ever been. The drinks and atmosphere were absolutely terrible. I have no idea why anyone would go there or how on earth it was voted #1 for anything.

Cocktail service is great at the Blue Owl, simply wonderful. The specialty drinks turn a club/lounge into an attractive sipping hotspot.
The fix-up is simple, masculine, and moderate for a New York lounge, with copper-bronze roofing and a few cool, urban, unfinished brick walls. It has no signs, no neon, no sports, no television. It's an intimate lounge.
The second element of the Blue Owl atmosphere is the music, which goes across all different styles in a mainstream way. After a couple of drinks, you know it's about music itself.
However, the real reason I've found my way here the second and third times is because of the drinks themselves. The bartenders really know about alcohol, how to mix it, and how to garnish a drink for taste. The drinking philosophy behind the cocktail came as sort of a revelation.
I guess I'm saying that I'm just sick of beer, and that the Blue Owl is a fresh, classy lounge. It's a happy place with good style.Best drinks and music

The Blue Owl is worth going into, especially late. It's not too crowded, and it has music and a mixed clientele and mixed music. Nice fix up and good drinks. On Second Avenue below 14th Street. It's in a busy neighborhood, too, for hitting a couple of bars safely. There's good music, too, which is actually rare for the les.
Cool and Classy
This is THE cocktail room for the discriminating drinker. First class beverages and foods...superior service...cool and classy ambience. Go see for yourself, and you'll be sure to return.
jazz locale

i like this place on sundays when there is live jazz all night. its cozy and quaint yet sophisticated. It is always very comfortable and mellow.
the wine selection is nice, with a good balance of new and old world varietals. have not tried the cocktails but they sound good.
comes highly recommended for jazz on a sunday night.unbelievable happy hour

great find. Headed into the Blue Owl this past friday night after work and stumbled upon a wonderful happy hour. They have this exceptional cocktail list, all original concoctions, for half price. Just noticed also that the blue owl is up for nyc's best cocktails, so not only does this place serve up some of the city's finest, they knock them down to half price during the week. quite a deal. the drinks were fantastic and easy on the pockets, plus the bartender was great. im a huge fan of the blue owl and think you all owe it to yourself to check it out.
Blue Owl Rocks!

Just wrote a review and didnt seem to upload, so im writing it again. sorry if it appears twice!
Anyway, If ever in need of a refreshing change from the Irish bars that litter a long stretch of the East Village, one need only to descend a small staircase and enter the Blue Owl. This clandestine lounge bar serves up a killer cocktail list filled with unassumingly delicious flavor combinations. Crowd is trendy yet unpretentious, vibe is relaxed but engaging. Staff and service are stellar. I highly recommend this place for a night out with friends, a date, or just for an after work drink. What more can you ask?
Great booze, comfortable space, skilled staff, fantastic music and cool crowd!
Cool Owl
This is definitely my kind of bar...excellent cocktails, good music, mellow vibe, skilled bartenders. I hosted a birthday party here for a friend not too long ago. The owner was extremely accommodating, and everyone had a wonderful night. Highly recommended!
