If you're looking for a sophisticated little bistro without the commute into Gotham, look no further than this mid-Island eatery owned by veteran restaurateur Jim Gerrain, Jr, of Montauk ''Lobster Roll'' fame. The sleek, modern dining room boasts high ceilings, fresh tables of white linen, and even a baby grand piano. It looks expensive, but the menu, which specializes in steaks, seafood and fondues, is reasonably priced, and offers an eclectic range of dishes from a grilled chicken sandwich to chicken, artichokes and pancetta with lemon and white wine. If you're up for a long, extravagant dinner, the wine list is encouraging, with selections like Beaulieu Vineyards Tapestry Reserve of Napa. If you're thinking corporate, the restaurant offers a shuttle service between local offices and hotels. But if you're at Sweetwaters with a sweetheart, don't leave without trying the warm peach and caramel fondue with peaches, dark rum, caramel, brown sugar and butter.

    FOOD

The entrees are boring and uninspired; almost diner like. The servings are SMALL but I mean really small....I had the crab/seafood cakes which were the size of half dollars, made-up from mostly bread crumbs, chewy shrimp, and perhaps (and I mean perhaps) a hint of crab. They served only three of these pint sized things; the meal also included one half of a slightly undercooked potato and a small serving of vegetables. I was still hungry when I left.

    ATMOSPHERE

The dinning room is composed of dark paneled walls, ornate drapes covering ALL the windows, dim colored lights and an office building like dropped ceiling, add that to the small size of the room and the high noise level, you can see how this made for a less than enjoyable dining experience. You would think with the prices they charge for these micro servings, that perhaps a little could go towards hiring a good interior designer and sprucing the place up a bit.

    SERVICE

I have to admit the service was friendly but untrained and unprofessional. We waited over forty minutes for our meals but the waiter did apologize and said there was a problem with our order. While moving plates aside to make room on the table, our waiter (Raymond) nearly hit my date in the face with the entrees he was holding on his one arm and about to serve. When I asked for bread (I needed something to fill me up) he neglected to bring butter with it and never once asked to refill our empty glasses. This usually is the fault of the owner, hiring inexperienced help then neglecting to correctly train them. I noticed when I got home that they charged me $6.50 for a "Baybreeze" (I ordered and received a club soda and lime) which I never ordered nor was served. I was told this is a common ploy of bartenders, to add drinks to food orders.

Sweetwater will leave a sour taste in your mouth, save your money and go elsewhere.

  • Delicious Dining experience

After driving by Sweetwaters numerous times, I was excited to try it. The atmosphere was different than I expected. It was a little loud (we had a table in the bar area) but the food was good. There is A LOT of seafood on the menu. I ordered the baked clams, which were delicious...as was the Rigatoni Bolognese. Dessert was "to die for." I had the caramel crumb apple pie (a la mode of course). My husband had the Mozzarella Luna (delicious) for an appitizer and the NY strip steak for dinner. I myself didnt try the steak but he said it was good. Over all it was an excellent meal.

  • GOOD FOOD AND DRINKS

From the outside Sweetwaters looks like a great place for a burger. The menu actually surprised me. The menu was more upscale than I wouldve thought. There is a lot of seafood on the menu. I said that after flipping through the first few pages, then I came to the page that said "seafood". This is fine i'm just not a seafood lover. I ordered the NY strip marinated, with red skin mashed and veggie of the day , one of the best steaks i've had in a while. The drinks were good, desert was very good. We had a lot of different people helping us, a little confusing at times but over all a good experience.....Oh by the way...If you were looking for a burger, there arent any on the dinner menu.

  • Great Seafood and Ambiance

Sweetwaters is a great restaurant. The food was great and the prices were reasonable. It's dimly lit, so you could say it is romantic as well. I recommend the broiled seafood selection... it's to die for.

Went here Friday night with my family for my 25th birthday...my first time here. Wait staff was excellent, I had Mozzarella Luna and Lobster Ravioli; absolutely incredible! I'll definitely be coming back again!

My son and I came here specifically for the fondue I kept reading about. I was in shock when I saw the menu and the chocolate desset fondue cost $24(I think I remember the price of $24, we were there about three or four months ago). I don't care how much food they gave you to dip, no fondue is worth that kind of money. What a ripoff. It tastes great when you first dig in, but after a while the chocolate get a little sickening and it certainly is not worth this price. I would never go back to this ripoff place. Prices way too high.

Expensive, but unfortunately, I'm a big fondue fan. I go there with friends and we order the fondue app and fondue dessert and split it to cheapen up the bill. They give you so much food with it that it's plenty to go around. The small tables and slow service is unfortunate, though.

I've been to Sweetwaters for dinner twice, the menu is very limited and what I did get was not very good. Very expensive I thought for what you get. It looks nice from the outside but possibly they should have some wraps, sandwiches and burgers because that seems to be the type of place it should be.
