When former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon was in a coma, his advisors allegedly put a plate of shwarma under his nose to wake him up. That's the kind aroma that wafts through this Bay Ridge Middle Eastern restaurant: passionate, powerful, and with hints of humor. Named after a Lebanese town and run by charismatic chef-owner Rawia Bishara, Tanoreen is widely regarded as one of the finest Mediterranean eateries in the city. The light, unpretentious dining room is devoid of many distractions, and thankfully so, as there's enough items on the meat-heavy menu to make a peace accord look like light reading. While Lamb is on the front lines here -- try it as a kebab, a kafta or a kibbie -- don't miss the spicy okra stew, the striped bass, or the dried Armenian sujok. You can even make a meal of the appetizers -- Labaneh (Egyptian yogurt), cauliflower salad with tahini, and what may be the best baba ghanoush in Brooklyn.

OUTSTANDINGLY AUTHENTIC!!!!!

My background is middleastern and Oh god forbid this will upset most of my family tanoreen is better then my mother or grandmothers cooking my wife who is new to the U.S. says that they cook better then she does !!!
Right...it is pretty good.
Thats bc Sharon was a fat tub of lard. moving along, I went to this place the other day, I was sceptical at first bc I never liked eating arab food other then my own home bc whats the point? And Arab food tatses better fresh. I went to many aarb resturaunts from Palestine to Jordan to Eygpt to Saudi etc...but this place was by far the best. It's the closest thing to my mothers home cooking.
Best homemade food and great skill service!!
thank you tanoreen for the great food and the service you gave us. Great place to dine with my family and my closest ones!!!
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
First each individual is entitled to his own opinion. What is truly remarkable about the sense of taste is the reponse that we get.
For many years our family feasted at my father-in-laws house enjoying many traditional delicacy's of middle eastern cooking. Since he passed away 7 years ago, we have been unable to duplicate his cooking, and have searched and sampled many middle eastern restaurants trying to replicate what was for many years, enjoyed and probably taken for granted until it was gone. Then we found Tanoreen. Besides the best and unbelievable assortment of middle eastern foods, the truly amazing feeling of being welcomed each and every time, as if we are family, by Rawia and her daughter, Jumana is unsurpassable and makes it a truly amazing experience. You can not go back in time, but you can bring similar feelings and memories back to you through taste. This is the gift Tanoreen has given to our family.
To respond to Jokerbenze...it is important to remember that many middle eastern dishes have been lost in history, buried under years of civilization, waves of immigrations, and the overlapping of many cultures. If you divide the middle east into five general areas: Iran, the Arab World, including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula; the Near East encompassing Turkey, Greece and Armenia; and North Africa, which includes Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco. Israel remains separate from the other areas because its cuisine is based on the cuisines of scores of countries. What is important is that the lady from Bethlehem, Israel has brought these flavors, aromas and tastes back to the little community of Brooklyn, and us.
Thank you Tanorren.
