A century ago, New York sported over 800 places where one could, beer in hand, eat, drink and act convivial with fellow city folk while sitting in or strolling through enclosed outdoor grounds. Sounds nice, but as the 20th century passed and real estate skyrocketed, it became increasingly hard for these tree-lined taverns to skirt commercial development. Yet this holdout is no mere throwback to the gaslight era; it offers sharp, on-tap beer and solid, if heavy, modern cuisine. Notice, for example, the shopworn wood bar by the entrance; its time-tested character lightens the mood. After picking up, say, your Pilsner, head into the state's largest enclosed park, a woodland where redwood picnic tables seating 500 await -- and wait for table service to bring pierogi, crepes, goulash, steak with ham and cheese, or kielbasa, potato and sauerkraut. Weekends, this horse-and-buggy-era bohemia is strictly SRO, much as it was 100 years ago. Which proves that at least somewhere in this town, it's hip to be historical. -- Leonard Jacobs

Place is da bomb awesome on a spring/summer day. It's a real quiet atmosphere, at least during the daytime, as thats the only time I've been there. Bring you boyz and chill while pounding some genuine Czech beer. The freshest tasting Pislner Urquell you'll ever find.

I love the garden - spring, summer, fall...but definitely bring your friends with, because with the picnic tables, everyone just chills back - you won't meet many new people outside. But this is definitely one of the better low-key atmospheres in NYC! Just don't expect more than jeans and t-shirts.

I've lived in Astoria, all my 26 years....5 blocks away from bohemian hall. I dont know why it is included in this list. There are alot of bars in Astoria 100% better than this one. Try Cavo on broadway & 42nd also LIFE on Newtown Ave & 29th street....many more than that

It's wonderful to sit under the trees and drink Pilsner Urquel. By the way, the review you posted makes you look like a bunch of snobs.
