Plain wooden doors, a murky interior and the obligatory Harley parked out front characterize this Las Vegas legend. As with most of the authentic blues clubs in the country, its reputation is far larger than its physical reality. It's not tiny, but low ceilings and dim lighting make the walls seem even closer than they really are. Plus, when things get hopping here (which they often do), the room gets filled to capacity with people of every sort. In addition to being a musician's hangout, the Sand Dollar draws culture vultures, lovin' couples, yuppies, truckers and everyone in between. There's live music seven days a week -- if you're the type that loves wild cards, go on Monday night for the All Star Blues Jam, headed up by the Vegas All Stars. Drink specials are offered nightly.

  • A Good Spot for Jammin' or just Drinkin'

    Review rating : 4out of 5   NYMCNV - 06/12/2008

I liked this place. Have been there for the Sunday and Monday night jams, had a great time, though I don't think they're having the jam on Monday's anymore. I say this 'cuz the last time I went by there to jam on Monday I found Chris Tofield and his band doin' their heavy blues thang. Luckily, most blues bands are very open to folks sitting in. Mr. Tofield is no different. He graciously invited me up to blow my sax and I didn't suck too bad, atall, atall. I got my ya-ya's out a little bit, had a coupla shots, it was great. Everybody was welcoming, too, though not in my face, ya know? I even got a coupla free drinks outta the whole deal! Good place to jam or just chill and listen to the blues. Better really love the blues, though, 'cuz that's about all they play there. Lucky me, I love the blues.

if it is true the joint is re opening, that is the best news I have heard all year! I don't even drink and I like this place!! It is funky, out and out biker blues fun fun fun! I think John Earl and his Boogie band have hit it big and most likely they were the reason this place was boogie all night long fun, but I know I miss it!!!

  • BEST DAMN BIKER/BLUES BAR!!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   harleydoggxxx - 08/20/2006

I live in boston mass, and when i went to VEGAS to visit a friend there in 1997.....she took me to the sand dollar because she said it was the best place to not only see a live blues band, but to FEEL the whole blues/biker bar vibe that happens when cool people and a rockin band get together as ONE. i've been to alot of strange bars before, but when i walked into the sand dollar i TOTALLY felt at home...the band was "john earl's boogieland blues band" and they were THE BEST BLUES BAND I'VE EVER SEEN!! and they're just a bunch of locals that love the blues.
BIKERS & BLUES FANS WILL LOVE THIS BAR! anyone who says otherwise....isn't a BIKER or a BLUES person!
    NUFF SAID!....~> BLACK DOGG~BOSTON<~

  • Such a dive

    Review rating : 1out of 5   jodfo - 08/13/2006

I live in Vegas and never heard of the place so when I saw it featured as one of the top 12 baddest biker bars in the country I decided to check it out. Went on a Saturday night on our Harley. The place was hard to find, there were no other bikes in the parking lot. It was dead as a doornail most of the night. The only bright light was the band, The Moanin Blacksnakes. They need to find a better place to showcase their great sound.

I was at the SandDollar only once - my one time in Vegas but was the best part of the trip - it was such a hidden treasure. I always told friends about it who was traveling that way. I am sad to hear that it has closed.

Great, great blues music! Super staff! Biker friendly! Cheap drinks! Cheap cover! Cool crowd! Always a good time! What's not to like!! With all tha's going on in this town, this is the only place that kept me coming back, night after night, week after week.... kinda' like a second home.... with blues, bikes, babes, and booze! Can't beat that combination! Now that it has closed, I don't know what to do with myself on a Friday or Saturday night. I developed a "Sand Dollar dependancy"... and I'm jonesin' BAD!

We have to find another venue for all the bands to play at. HELP
