Hot Rod's was housed inside Joann's, a no-frills bar in Mine Hill. In such nondescript quarters, the attention to detail in the 'Q' is totally unexpected. They're moving headquarters to Wharton, but you'll still become an instant believer when the warm cornbread arrives at your table with maple butter. It is hard to move on, but the wings here are an absolute must, as they are cooked in Hot Rod's special sauce. They are spicy, but with an underlying sweetness that is a secret of the chef. Other macho and messy favorites include the pork ribs, smoked in-house to perfection, and the huge pulled-pork sandwich, a messy handful of tender pork and special sauce. With all this meaty chow, you'll probably want to balance your meal with some of the fantastic vegetable sides. The airy hush puppies, creamy coleslaw, peanut oil french fries, and succulent slow-baked beans all count as vegetable dishes, don't they?

My husband and I have been there many times. Sometimes as a couple, sometimes with our 4 year old and sometimes with a group of friends. The atmosphere is fun for all and the food is fantastic! Definitely 5 stars.

jmi2477 - 03/14/2007I've been to Hot Rods a bunch of times now and I've never been disappointed. The enticing smells when you walk in match the great taste of the food. Service is friendly - everyone is smiling. Everyone should check this place out for good, homestyle BBQ. It's well worth the drive, no matter where you're coming from!!
Classic BBQ - Best in NJ
tymowry - 03/13/2007We visited Hot Rods last week and the food was excellent. Started with the wings and hush puppies. Savory, sweet, and the perfect spice for wings. And the hush puppies were just plain perfect. My husband ordered ribs, and the meat just fell off the bone. And they weren't dripping in sauce - which made them even better. I ordered the "roadkill burrito". It was so huge - I had a 2nd meal to take home. It was excellent. Loved everything. And I definitely recommend the frozen margaritas.. Perfect match for any item!

supameowmeowmeow - 02/28/2007ribs were dry and tasted like a bottle of smoke was poured all over them....same with my husbands pulled pork sandwich. Even the beans were gross.....oh and the mashed potatos had uncooked pieces in it.........YUCK!

Great BBQ....The pulled pork wrap was delicious...can't wait to go back and try all the things on the menu! The BBQ beans...loved the beans!!! Tony and Toby...the owners could not have been nicer...they make you feel right at home.....great local place to go and hang out as well......BTW...the waitress Trish is a cutie and knows her stuff...wow margaritas!!!!
I'll be back real soon.....I might even plan a summer Pig Roast....can't wait!
