People have talked smack about the return of nightlife to the Ironbound section of Newark for a long time. But now there is the XL Lounge with its Cristal and Dom Perignon, and its amped-up bass that makes the temples throb and the hips gyrate. The Jersey honeys in the spray-on minidresses and the hair piled to the ceiling. They're packed in tighter than 7:30AM on the PATH out of Journal Square here on the spacious dance floor. It's almost a line dance, with a little side-to-side shimmy. So, yes, it is now fair to say that nightlife has arrived in Newark. There are fruity martinis with cutesy names. Each night brings its own drink specials; as quaintly unoriginal as days-of-the-week underwear. There are big plush maroon couches on which to lounge, and burly men in glossy shirts who appear to be collecting phone numbers for a living.

    This is just a waste of time, like the below reviewers said the crowd is extremely stuck up, Singles are the minority as well. There is little variety to the music. Go somewhere else. This place is over priced with little atmosphere

    Been to XL Lounge and im not impressed.....first the location is a terrible its barely noticed unless your a local it would be a little confusing to get there...Second at the door i didnt have any problems getting in since i was with my girlfriend but i noticed they turn away guys if they dont have female a cquaintances "they say u have to be 23" generally a lounge building from ground up is just concerned with getting customers obviously who ever runs this isnt. Third, admission is pretty cheap only $10 bucks but the drinks are defintely too expensive for a newark lounge they charge like your in times square..fourth, the crowd seems to be generally portuguese or hispanics...fifth set up is hot though VIPis on a little balcony over looking the dance floor nice set up. Overall XL lounge is okay nothing to ride home about the DJ's are pretty solid and the set up is nice outside of that if your a single male or female its not worth going unless your a local.

    If you're looking to hang out with the younger stuck up Portuguese crowd, then this is your place. The girls hate on anyone without cheap jersey knit tops and the guys are all under 5'5. The atmosphere sucked a$$..the bar sucked, the layout, the structure, the aura, the vibe-if u will....the whole thing just sucked. Music was a 2 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being highest. Parking was horrible because you had to pray that you'll get a spot on the crowded city streets of this town. Dont bother going here, Adega's smaller, but better atmosphere and music.
