As if eating delicious gourmet Chinese food wasn't satiating enough, at Shanghai Jazz you also get to hear live jazz nightly. There is never any cover (although there are food and drink minimums), and once your seating is over, the music doesn't have to end. Patrons are encouraged to move to the bar to enjoy a second set at no extra charge. Late-night jams happen every weekend from 11PM onward. All performances feature musicians whom you're likely to hear on jazz radio station WBGO. For those who take their Chinese food as seriously as their music, specialties of the house include Neptune's Basket, a seafood stir-fry in a delicate white sauce; or Firecracker Beef, which comes coated in a water chestnut powder then stir-fried in a fiery garlic sauce with vegetables. And when the musicians settle into a slow jam, you'll want to sample one of the delightful desserts. In addition to key lime pie and an airy cappuccino mousse cake, try Lush Life, a banana-nut ice cream confection smothered in chocolate liqueur.

Great entertainment, great food

My wife and I visited this restaurant for the 8:45 seating not really knowing what to expect, but I must say, the entertainment was great. I was really surprised to see this level of Jazz entertainment in Madison, NJ. In addition, the food was excellent. To top everything off, the service was excellent and the attention that we received from the owners was beyond expectations. I can't recall a time that I visited a restaurant that showed the attention to detail and made the guest feel that they were the center of attention.

With all the outstanding restaurants in Madison and Chatham, this isn't even on the radar with those who are interested in great food and service, yet the prices are inflated because of the attraction of the music. As a restaurant, without the music, I'd be inclined towards only one star!

Some of the best jazz musicians around play here, thanks to the wonderfully friendly owner, who is a serious jazz enthusiest. It is best to look at the schedule and pick a night that best suits your taste. Dinner was excellent, as was desert. Great overall experience.

Couldn't be better. I and friends have been going for years. best real jazz in the area, many top names. Never had a bad dinner.Price is reasonable compared to N.Y.C. Martha & David (Owners) always working to keep things top notch

The food was terrible... all I heard was a bunch of instruments whailing, not Jazz. It was a waste of my time and I reccomend that you do not go here if you want to have a good time.
