When you turn the corner in tasteful, pristine downtown Denville and catch your first glimpse of the colorful and fantastic faade of Hunan Taste, you'll be shocked. But although this kitschy building looks like Disney's idea of Chinatown, the elegant dining rooms and the crowd-pleasing menu should relieve your fears. That pleasant haze should stay with you through your dumplings with hot oil, Kung Pao chicken with peanuts, and beef with snow peas. There's nothing shocking about Hunan Taste's Americanized menu, with Grand Marnier chicken or shrimp in a boozy, sweet sauce and juicy Peking duck served with crisp scallions, crepes, and plum sauce. The spacious dark-wood interior, rows of glowing exotic fish tanks, and blue-and-white china create an atmosphere right for large groups, families with children, couples and business associates. Some complain about the unimaginative menu or the uneven service, but everything else at this Chinese comfort food palace is designed to sooth while you dine inside its walls.

Hunan Taste Is Tops
JOSEPHMCNAMEE9 - 06/13/2008When my wife and I lived in New York we were regular customers at some of the city's best Chinese restaurants. I am happy to say that when we moved to NJ and discovered Hunan Taste we were pleasantly surprised. I would put HT right up there with the best Chinese eateries in Manhattan. The food is excellent, the service is very good, and the decor is amazing. A real Denville jewel.

tomlyn24 - 07/24/2007Hunan taste is definetly the best chinese restaurant out there. There are beautiful fish tanks everywhere and service is top notch. I love the general tsas chicken and grand marnier shrimp. Its definetly my favorite restaurant hands down.

japplek123 - 04/17/2007I have been hunan taste many times, they have a great dish,which is grand marnier shrimp .I love it.but I was there for my birthday party with my whole family in last week , the stuff is too slow to service us ,I will be back , but no more parties.

imantsee - 01/09/2007I visit NJ from Chicago, and everytime I come here I HAVE to eat here. The decorative atmosphere, detail to service, and amazing food is second to none, and I've frequented many Chinese restaurants, from Chicago to around the world. Fresh vegetables EVERY time; tasty lean Duck; and Twin Lobsters in black bean sauce are my favorites. The staff is always courteous and with the same smiling faces since I have gone, and thats close to 7 years running.
No MSG, no problem!
It may not be inexpensive, but you will get the best 'bang for your buck'.
This place has it all. Go visit and enjoy it, you'll be grateful that you did and will probably get hooked like I was.

zang314 - 01/09/2007I just got to say that their Beef and broccoli is the best i have ever tasted.I have lived in the state for 20 years now and have gone to many many Chinese restaurant and the only thing i ever eat is Beef and broccoli and Hunan Taste's Beef and broccoli is the best.
