The Boathouse is a clean-cut sort of bar, shiny and spotless, with good ventilation, salubrious air, dark, heavy woods and a whimsical nautical-themed decor. The cleanliness alone tends to repel the malignant, the loutish, the shirtless -- and thus the Boathouse draws a nice, respectable crowd. Rowboats and surfboards hang from the ceiling, and fishing nets drape some of the walls. Its wide windows open out onto a lovely outdoor terrace with shrubbery and little trees. You can watch every game being played on a given night with the help of more than a dozen big-screen televisions distributed throughout the bar. The surprisingly extensive menu is filled with heavy half-pound burgers, char-broiled New York strip steaks, barbecued ribs, etc. The bartenders and management set the tone: loose, friendly, fun-loving. Simply by being real people, they prevent the bar from resembling one of those odious suburban chains its shiny newness might otherwise evoke.

SKIP471 - 06/27/2008owners are obnoxious- no personality -arrogant ass&*().,dont waste your time or money giving to them.only thing saving them is some specials nad half the staff.otherwise the other half is just like the owners - such an attitude.they also own 507 main in belmar and are now buying briodys in rumson .stay away.

Good Laid Back Sports Bar
goodiesueshoes - 01/29/2007Nice spacious bar, reasonably clean cut crowd despite it's Belmar location (not drunken 20-year olds for the most part). Stick to the typical bar menu though - their gourmet-sounding specials sound really tempting, but when I ordered a ribeye with a red wine reduction sauce, I got an unidentifiable piece of red meat SMOTHERED in what seemed to be canned gravy with very fresh looking spinach which tasted like the salt shaker had lost it's cap. The burgers are good though.
food poisoning!!
jdaley584 - 12/22/2005The first and only time I went here I ended up in the hospital w/ a bad case of food poisoning. I have since learned of a few other people who had the same experience. Stay away from the cole slaw!

vicky0590 - 09/30/2005So, i went there on a Sunday, pretty packed, and the set up was unbelievable, I mean, they have TV's at the booths where you eat, HOWEVER, the food was horrible. I ordered wings and there were hair on them, and the food in general was a great disappointment. The only thing I enjoyed were the nachos. Overall, they need to work on the menu but atmosphere is amazing.

ptwildman - 01/08/2005This is great place - The food is awesome (Must have the grilled wings and the filet open face sandwich), and the atmosphere is always festive with live music. There is never a bad night at the Boathouse!
