  • Pricey, but you get for you pay for.

I have been to many nice steak houses, but this is top notch. The decor in the downtown Charlotte house is gorgeous. The service is very impressive and everything was perfect. Longhorn, etc, can't even compare to this restaurant. I like to eat a nice steak in a place that has carpet, neat looking staff, no peanuts on the floor or stuffed dead animals on the wall. The steak was huge and cooked to perfection. I loved everything about it.

We have eaten at Ruth Chris's in different cities. The steaks are great and the vegetables are wonderful. Everything we have ever eaten at any of the Ruth Chris's was worth the price and the trip. In Greensboro, they make a black cherry martini that is out of this world.

  • Very Well done

  • Ruths Chris vs. Longhorn, et al

    Review rating : 5out of 5   RWilliamA - 06/11/2008

Folks, if you are looking for cheap eats, DON'T go to Ruth's Chris. It is upscale, it is pricey and it is very, very good. To compare it to Longhorn or any other pedestrian steakhouse is like comparing Angelina Jolie to Fat Albert. In short, two different animals.
If you can't afford an expensive restaurant, don't go to one. Whining about price is really, really annoying, especially when you claim the food wasn't good in order to mask your inability to afford it. Ruth's Chris is excellent. I've eaten at several of them, including the one in downtown Charlotte, and I've always found them superb. Their wine list is world class, their steaks are prime (as oppose to the select grades served at less expensive places) and both service and food preparation have always been first rate. But, remember, I didn't go to Ruth's Chris looking for cheap eats, I go there looking for an exceptional dining experience.

I've been to many "so called" great steak houses, including Morton's, Carmen Anthony's and Galliger's in NY, but in my opinion, nothing beats Ruth Chris for great service, great food and great atmospher. Worth every dollar.

PAID A VISIT AND NOT IMPRESSIVE. OVERPRICED AND I COULD COOK A STEAK BETTER THAN THIS. GO TO LONGHORN, AND GET REAL PRIME RIB WITHOUT EMPTYING YOUR WALLET. BEWARE

  • Just Average Fare, Overpriced

Been to Ruth Chris a few times in NJ & also a few times here in Charlotte. Had same experience in NJ & Charlotte: good service but very average steak, overpriced. Have been to Mortons in Charlotte & to Peter Luger's in NYC. Luger's is the best. Save ur $$$ here in Charlotte & go to Beef N Bottle on South Blvd, almost as good as Peter Lugers in NYC & at 1/2 the price of Mortons & Ruth Chris'. Don't expect fancy: Beef N Bottle is an old fashioned, plain family owned steak "roadhouse", nothing fancy, but salad & one side included w/some of the best beef you'll eat in Charlotte.

  • Good but not Great

    Review rating : 3out of 5   ATDCharlotte - 06/11/2008

The steak was good but undercooked for me. I ordered well done but got medium rare. It was pink in the middle. The sweet potatoe casserole was superb. It was a little pricey and all sides are extra. The bread was hard. The restaurant was nice and upscale. The service was excellent.

Ruth's is by far the Best. They believe in their products AND their people. They give back to the community again and again and again, and by doing so have developed a loyal following that will be willing to return for many years to come. The fly by nights have nothing on this concept, nor will they ever. If you want to save a dime...stay home and don't bother those of us that appreciate the amount of work that is put into maintaining such a great concept. Rest in Peace Miss Ruth, you were the best!
