Locals all have their favorite down-home-style spot, and Lupie's Cafe fans are legion. Ask folks what they like best at the place, and the answer isn't a dish -- it's a day, as in ''Thursday!'' Lupie's biggest sellers are served up as daily specials, just once each week. Folks drive from far and wide for ''their'' days, maybe savory meat loaf and mashers on Monday. To confirm what's on the menu, call ahead: Some things do change, even at Lupie's. What doesn't change much is the good-naturedly casual service, or the line of eager wannabe eaters. Black-and-white photographs provide simple decor surrounding chockablock tables. Think fast about a choice, and plan for mammoth portions with not a calorie spared. Can't decide? A veteran server votes for tender chicken and dumplings, or a chili-cheese dog if it's not dumpling day. Burger lovers say there is none bigger or better than Lupie's.

Very Dirty Place
LORGEO2 - 07/25/2008I have not been to Lupie's in 10 years and now I remember why.
Food was bad. Worst, overcooked, dry, tasteless burger I ever had. Chili was also tasteless!!! I could barely eat it. However, the bad part was, how extremely Filfthy the place is. Is is Gross!! They have not cleaned anything in 10 years. Carpet was slimed over so bad you could tnot ell it was carpet anymore. Disgusting!! Would never eat there.Add Comment- Jameshenderson00 - 07/08/2008

Maxceemax - 05/27/2008We get around a fair amount, and must say that for quality, quantity and value, Lupie's is one of the finest restaurants on the planet. Love the quiche, meatloaf, cornbread, vegetable plates (esp. macaroni and pintos). Lupie really does an unsurpassed job of giving her customers excellent food for a fair price. Five Stars.

borndaman - 06/13/2005great choices from vegetarian to meat eaters, I've been eating there since i was a kid and now when I go back to visit Charlotte I take my kids and husband and they love it! The price is to cheap for what you get if only there were more restaurants like this one!

raceresearch1 - 02/17/2005I don't mind the kind of service you get in a place like Lupie's -it's part of the color. My burger was pretty good, however, my friends chili was not only tasteless, but hardly lukewarm. The overall experience wasn't impressive, but we had no bad feelings until we were at the register paying the bill. A customer complained about the mac and cheese, the waitress took it off her table, AFTER the customer obviously had eaten some of it, and dumped it back into the batch of mac and cheese in the kitchen, to be dished out for another customer. As if that wasn't bad enough, one of the workers got a spoon and took a taste right out of the big batch, not once, but twice. So 2 people's saliva were mixed into the community mac n cheese. I was disgusted and appalled. You couldn't pay me to eat at that place again.
