One look at the mauve-and-green facade, neon sign and window awnings and you know you're stepping back in time. At Frankie's, you're stepping back half a century. The Frankie in question is none other than Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. The restaurant pays homage to him, from the black-and-white photographs on the cream-colored walls to the Sinatra tunes on the sound system. Frankie's is elegant without being stuffy, with lots of dark woods and a wood-burning oven.

The menu features -- what else? -- Italian classics that Frankie would love. Dig into huge portions of spaghetti with meatballs, chicken Parmesan, lasagna and calamari. You won't find any creative surprises, just good old-fashioned Italian food like Mama Corleone used to make. Desserts, like tiramisu and fudge brownies, are big and rich. Prices are low.

  • The Best

No better place to take a date. She will want to go back. The music, tile floors, Sinatra music in the background. The food is excellent!! Best Italian restaurant in Charlotte because of the ambiance. I like Portofinos and Buca but this is the best.

  • Salade Mona Lisa with Grilled Salmon!

The best meal ever, and the only meal I order any more when going to Frankie's! It's so healthy and delicious! Love the Frank Sinatra music for ambiance, romance, and sophistication! I've always gotten excellent excellent customer service there because they welcome and treat their customers as though they're trying to be hospitable to new friends rather just waiting on or serving "another customer." A wonderful restaurant and meeting place! I just wish I could afford to eat out there more often, but, that will come with time.

  • It's not all excellent, but...

    Review rating : 5out of 5   garymcbear - 05/12/2007

It's not all excellent. The food is often good to very good, not inexpensive and sometimes not quite warm enough ... but who cares?!? The atmosphere, the service, the style and the music have a tendency to make things taste better. Take a break from the ordinary, go to Frankie's, order a superb drink, make some menu choices and enjoy your being able to do so. Then have another drink ... I fully intend to have a martini made by Dave, an unassuming genius behind the bar, placed in my coffin just before they close the lid.

This is our standard place we take people who come from out of town. Food is delish! Service is good! The manager always comes around to the tables to see if everything is okay. The bartender is great too!

  • Some of the best Italian in Charlotte!!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   teri323 - 07/24/2004

I visited Frankie's last night and was served the best italian I had eaten in some time. The eggplant parmesan is outstanding and the portions of all the menu items are huge. Others at my table had the chicken parmigiana and Penne arrabiata with italian sausage..we all had so much food that we all had enough for another meal later. The marinara is the best I have had in so long. The last sauce I had eaten was from Ciro's in the University area. It didnt even taste italian compared to the sauce last night. There were chunks of strong flavored tomatoes, bits of garlic and basil leaves..and plenty of the sauce. They even gave us extra sauce to put with our leftovers for the next day. Ciro's sauce was bland, sugary and thin..it was awful and not representative of quality italian food at all. We also had fried motzella for an appetizer. The portion for the small was huge and the best ever, crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside..topped with that wonderful marinara. This will be the place I will take all out of town guests from now on. The Sinatra music in the background and the dark wood interior really set a nice atmosphere. I cant say enough good about this place. I didnt think the prices were any higher than other italian restaurants in town, especially with the top quality of the food..althought Ciro's is much higher and poor quality (to me). Go visit as soon as you can..you wont be sorry.

  • Salute e Benvenuto a Frankies Bistro

    Review rating : 4out of 5   stscds - 07/08/2004

Stellar atmosphere with a terrific wait staff that even the perfectionist in Mr. Sinatra would appreciate! Folks, this is a gracious amount of "Good Eats" served by "Good People" at a very fair price, that you can't beat. Besides, you can go to any of a number of Bistro's in Charlotte and never hear better music performed by more a talented artist, "The Voice". The fare is First Rate, Top Shelf even! Oh, by the way, there is also a bar in this joint that is "Top of da Heap,Baby." Bottom Line.... "You want Good Eats in Nice Digs, You gotta come to this place.... otherwise..... Forgetta bout it!" Finally, you's probably wouldn't know if "The Don" was sittin' next to ya or not, so come on in, eat, drink and make yourself at home!

  • My Favorite Charlotte Spot

This is my fav. restaurant in Charlotte. It can't be beat. It is slightly pricy, but it is so worth it. You cannot beat the food and the atmosphere of this restaruant. A place that every Charlotean should try!
