The folks behind Cabo Fish Taco have succeeded in bringing a little bit of Southern California and Mexico sunshine to Charlotte. The restaurant is part California surfer, part Mexican taqueria, with bright greenish-yellow walls and tiny cacti on the worn wooded tables. A handful of televisions show surfing and snowboarding events, and a gleaming surfboard serves as wall art. Servers are casual in jeans and T-shirts, giving the restaurant the feel of your buddy's living room, which is exactly the point.
The star of the menu, of course, is the fish taco, a West coast phenomenon that is slowly making its way east. A fish taco is fried fish wrapped into a flour tortilla with tomatoes, avocado, cheese and cilantro. Like a regular taco, but with fish. If that sounds too weird for you, try any one of the many other offerings, like grilled shrimp wrap, chipotle Caesar salad, turkey breast and avocado wrap, burritos, ceviche, quesadillas and queso dip with chips. Several tequilas are available, to be sipped or mixed into an oversized margarita. Prices are low to moderate.

A taste of Cabo it's not.......

Finally stopped in after hearing all the hoopla. While my companion thought the fish taco was "okay," the meat in my steak tacos was chunky and chewy, in no way resemblant of the finely chopped carne asada filling you'll find in Baja California. Instead of complementing the steak with just onion and cilantro (true Cabo style), the tacos had some kind sauce drizzled on them which made me wonder what I was eating. I'd rather have more steak, less extra fillers, and better prices, which are what you'll find at the true taquerias in Charlotte's Latino neighborhoods.

You can't go wrong with any of the taco's or the burrito's. But beware, nights of the gallery crawls and big shows at the Neighborhood Theatre can create long waits. But it's worth every second. Cabo fits the atmosphere of an up and coming neighborhood, it's a must if you're in or around NoDa.
Great Food

This is a wonderful place with great food. The location is one of the up and coming areas in Charlotte. You can also stop by before they do gallery crawls one Friday every month. If you haven't tried the mahi mahi bbq tacos here, you are really missing something great!
location, location, location
somewhere else in the city this place might have a chance but it is just on the wrong side of town and in a bad area.
Very Unique!
I went there for lunch and was surprisingly pleased. My husband has been there a few times. The place itself is small and really gets busy at noon. People were standing around waiting for tables. Parking is inadequate. Not the best part of town. Food was pretty good though, and so was service.
