Bonterra is located in a renovated 100 year old church in the historic Southend District of Charlotte. Sommelier & Owner John Duncan has created a stunning array of 200 wines by-the-glass and an additional 300 selections from the cellar which comprises one of the largest wine lists in Charlotte. Featured in the November 15, 2000 issue of Wine Spectator Magazine as one of the New Wave Wine Bars in America. Winner of the prestigious AAA Four-Dimond Award and DiRoNA Award of Excellence. Complimenting John's selection of wines are the menu offerings of Executive Chef Blake Hartwick. Chef Hartwick's elegant approach to cooking shows nightly in his diverse menu of fresh seafood, Midwestern lamb, oven roasted filet mignon and the signature fried lobster tail.

  • Great Ambiance, service and selection, however, ...

Let me start by saying the ambiance and atmosphere in this place is fantastic. Something about eating in a beautifully constructed old church is just neat. The service and selection is also phenomenal – fantastic wine list also. However, as mentioned above the price is exuberant. I love the food and the establishment itself and have to give it 4 stars. The only thing to remember, is quality is not cheap and neither is this place.

  • Too pricey

    Review rating : 2out of 5   NStuckey - 07/09/2008

I love to go out for a nice dinner but Bonterra is very over priced. There are plenty of upscale restaurants to go to in Charlotte with better food and more reasonable prices.

My favorite for couples, bar and meetings. Food, wine and service are all exceptional!

Wonderful meal and service. The wine menu is extensive. The ability to order great wines by the glass allows you tailor the wine to the course. Service was extraordinary--Jimmy does a very nice job guaging his customer's needs. I just read the 9/11 review that panned Bonterra. All I can say is they must have eaten somewhere else. We will go again often!

Not a good dining experience. Service was slow, despite the fact that my girlfriend and I were the only people there. The meals were VERY overpriced. Paid $60+ for 2 undersized entrees, no side item except for bread, water, and a vegetable that I could not identify; it looked and tasted like seaweed. I left there feeling fleeced, and hungry. The only positive was the atmosphere; a very nice place. Will NOT be going back.

This is one of the most outstanding establishments in Charlotte. The seared tuna was excellent ... service prompt, polite and helpful. They offer a wide ranging wine list that is certain to please all.

Nothing like it in Charlotte. Great food, service, and atmoshere. The vealchop was the best ever. I server was a real pro and that made it for me. Cheers!

They apparently forgot people need space apart when they eat; the tables are literally 2 feet apart. The food is tasty, but you'll pay for it. Don't go there for holiday pre-set menus, unless you want to spend 3 hours waiting for your complete meal. I guess you have to have the money to throw away to enjoy this place.

  • 200 Varieties of Wine by the Glass

    Review rating : 5out of 5   grinsnlaughter - 08/30/2002

Gourmet dining, 200 varieties of wine by the glass, subtle Georgian architecture in a converted church...all make this one of Charlotte's top restaurants if not THE top restaurant. The food is always excellent, the service is unsurpassed and the experience is sure to have you return.
