For St. Louisans, Mike Shannon's name is immediately recognizable. After all, this is America's ultimate baseball city. Shannon was not only a mainstay of the outstanding Cardinals squads of the 1960s, he has since gone on to perhaps even greater local renown as one of the broadcast voices of the beloved team, which plays its home games at Busch Stadium, a line drive away from the front door of this baseball-themed restaurant, which moved down the street in early 2006.
Add it all up, and Shannon's would doubtless prosper even if it didn't take its food seriously. But it does, as the extensive and relatively ambitious menu -- heavy with steak, lobster and other high-end dishes -- might suggest. From the food to the pristine stemware and immaculate linens, Mike Shannon's steakhouse epitomizes St. Louis fine dining. The menu is dedicated to prime dry aged steaks and a smattering of jumbo-sized seafood. There are more than 15 wines for sale by glass, and a wide variety of bottles to match whatever you have for dinner. Despite the fancy flairs in look and taste, Shannon's baseball connection provides a touch of unpretentious friendly casualness. The restaurant's strong affiliation to the Cardinals and Busch Stadium is obvious in the private rooms dedicated to star Cardinals players and baseball paraphernalia. The result is an elegant restaurant that packs them in not only before and after Cardinals games, but also for lunch throughout the week.

Good food - poor service

Food was very good but service needed much improvement. Waiter was rude and failed to even stop by once to ask if we wanted another drink or see how the food was. For such a great spot, they should work with their staff on customer service.

Absolutely the BEST
My husband and I make special trips from Kansas City to St. Louis for this special treat. We love steak and seafood, and have still not found a resteraunt that tops Mike Shannons. Even having grown up on the coast, my husband swears the lobster tail (Austrailian, for those who are curious) is the best he's ever had. I am personally into a tender, well aged medium-rare cut of beef, and where others have over or undercooked this delicacy, Mike's has never disappointed! The dining experience is top notch, especially since they've moved their resteraunt across the street and revamped it some. The waitstaff has *always* been top of the line, we've never had a complaint about the attention we recieved there. All in all, there is really nothing bad I can say about this resteraunt. Be prepare to pay for what you eat, this is not an inexpensive meal- BUT I can personally guarantee that it will be worth every penny!! The atmosphere, the food, the overall experience- easily 5 stars.
Great place

I've been to Mike Shannon's a few times, never been disappointed. Great setting, very helpful, knowledgeable staff and great steaks and the food portions will satisfy any hearty appetite. Also makes a great destination before or after the game!
Great atmosphere and food

As a regular at STL eatries Niche, Copia, Riddles, Atlas, KreisÂ, Monarch, etc I had yet to experience the new ShannonÂs from a sit down dining perspective. Though I visited during some 06 games and liked the new place I had yet to actually have a full meal there. When learning an in-laws visit (particularly my wifeÂs baseball loving father), I thought this the perfect chance to do the full dinner test. I used opentable, which I recommend as my reservation got me the Yadier Molina snug booth on a busy Sat night (which impressed my in-laws). Once seated, our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable .but lacked some info on beer selection (weÂre not wine drinkers). After Hoegaardens & calamari app were ordered, the atmosphere took over and the wait time seemed like nothing. Upon reviewing the menu you realize like most fine steakhouses--items are ala carte and can be rather pricey. Of the 4 people at the table, 2 ordered steaks (an 8oz filet and a 12oz sirloin with the shrimp add on which I recommend), the chicken tomato entrée and the 2 thick pork chops (which were very large and 2 thick). For steak eaters, pay close attention to the temperature guide in the menu. My wife ordered her 8oz filet medium rare, but it came out rarer than she anticipated. On the sides, the asparagus and creamed spinach were particularly liked. From table comments, the food was delivered in a reasonable time, presentation and taste were excellent and though pricey, at least portions were commensurate. Big portions & table sharing left no room for dessert. Once dinner was over, we viewed all the memorabilia including the downstairs private dining rooms. On this occasion, no Mike Shannon, but his daughter Pat did come by to check on us. There were a few very small hiccups, but the atmosphere, food and service were top notch and highly recommend. The steak quality IMO is up there with KreisÂ, but Shannons atmosphere is much better.
Big disappointment
We were having a special night with family, so we decided to go to Mike Shannons for dinner. There were 7 of us, 2 out of town guest. Long story short, the steaks are overpriced, service is ok and the view of Market street was the best item all night. My $42 steak was luke warm, dry, no flavor, to the point where I almost put KETCHUM on it for flavor. The other dinners ranged from good to disappointing. The bill was around $450, KNOWING IT WOULD NOT BE CHEAP, but at least you should enjoy the meal. I would not reccomend this restaurant to anyone!
