Owner Joanie Thomas loves her neighborhood. She even picks up most of the produce for her popular Italian dishes at the Soulard Farmer's Market. When Joanie's opened in 1995, neighbors responded to her hospitality by snatching up pies and calzones. It wasn't long before word spread. Now folks from all over the Gateway City are jumping off I-55 for a taste. There are three crusts to choose from, and not one of them is St. Louis-style. Choose from hand-tossed, baked double crust or thin. Build your own pizza from an extensive list of ingredients that includes everything from common selections to shrimp, chicken and artichokes. The margherita is one of several house specialty pizzas to choose from, too. You could take your prize home or have it delivered, but then you would miss some of the greatest alfresco dining in the city. Pizzeria is in the name, but that's not all you can eat here. Feast on sandwiches, salads and popular pastas like baked lasagna and cannelloni. -- BE

multi grain crust pizza.
Multi gain pizza dough is the new trend for health minded folks. I hope it comes to St. Louis soon. Its a great seller in other states,
Add CommentRomantic Place to Visit
New TV's and completely redecorated upstairs its a nice place to visit and enjoy the afternoon or evening with a loved one and perhaps some kids. She has a kids menu as well as offering personal size pizzas. Overall, its a great place.
Worth the drive to there
Its worth the drive down to there took people down there and they said best they ever had
New at Joanie's!

New plasma wide screens for football upstairs and down. New carpet, new paint, new decor and same delicious pizza.
This is a neighborhood pizzeria that welcomes everyone.
If your service sucked (as some of the reviewers have testified) you were probably some loud-mouthed west county or St Charles humps who got lost looking for McGurks.Slow service or no service
The last two times I attempted to eat there, I sat in the bar area and waited 15-20 minutes for someone to wait on me. Ended up leaving both times without even being acknowledged despite the fact that servers kept coming to the bar to get drinks. The bartender also didn't have a clue. I guess they get so much business they don't care.
Coming since it opened
Best pizzia on either side of the river! newly redone dining room, you'll love the place, ask for Joanie and tell her what you think!
Consistently excellent
Have been eating at Joanie's for almost 10 years and the pizza is wonderful. Her menu is always being upgraded and there are many items that you just don't see in other eateries. The Spinach Lazagna is one of my favorites and the pizza margherita is the best.
Outstanding Pizza
Very, Very good pizza. Very thin crust, very cripy crust. Very close to 5 stars, the crust might have been a little too thin. Toppins, suace and cheese were fresh and as good as you will find anywhere. Great location and service.
Terrible Service & experience
Went to Joanie's after reading about restaurant. Seated on a non-busy Sunday night. Had to wait 35 minutes for food to come out, and meantime all tables seated after us had long been served.
Finally our food arrived but my wife's calzone was no where to be found (the waitress had given her food to another table). Waitress said to my wife, "Your food will be up in a moment (not telling us why it was late). I asked her, "what time length is a moment", and she told me, "about 15 minutes". I told he it was totally unacceptable, no mention of why her food wasn't prepared, no offer to get something else, just you now have to wait another 15 freakin minutes!!! Stood up, told her I would pay for the drinks we had, but we are leaving. She then tells me how about if they can make it in 10 minutes, how about 5. So what do you have to do to get service and food there?!?!?!? I gues everything is up for negotiation if you push them....stupid.....
Save your money and time, and go to Vito's on Lindell by SLU (I knew we should have gone there first). Best pizza in St. Louis and you'll get GREAT service. Never again will I venture to Joanie's!!!!Oh yeah!

Joanie's is as close to Cheers as you'll get in Soulard. A regular crowd and everybody knows your name. Pizza is great but try the double crust if you want awesome! Great patio for afternoons and a comfortable bar. No smoking upstairs. Best bartenders and staff in Soulard. Can get crowded at times. Go early and stay late!
