Happy customers keep coming back to this buffet restaurant, making Happy China one of the most popular Chinese eateries in the St. Louis area. Tucked away in a strip mall in the western suburb of Creve Coeur, Happy China provides plenty of choices for the all-you-can-eat crowd. Its buffet line features five steaming-hot islands of Chinese favorites, along with two cold-item stations and an oversized wok offering a select stir-fry dish. Happy China's owners, the Pa family, hail from Taiwan, so the menu isn't restricted to any one Chinese cooking style. Instead, you'll find dishes from three regions -- Peking, Hunan and Szechuan. Happy China's menu also includes twenty-three hot and spicy entrees, but Chef Pa is happy to turn down the heat for customers who request it.
Happy China's dining room is marked by dark lighting, standard-issue, red-vinyl booths and generic-style tables. But decor aside, Happy China gets the important things right: The buffet stations are clean, the food is flavorful, prices are low and parking is ample.

Things are Better Now...
It's October of 2009 and I'm guessing things are better at Happy China than they must have been a few years ago. The buffet was clean, food fresh and delicious, beautifully displayed. The decor could be improved but the restaurant appeared clean and this small place was quite comfortable. Going to this restaurant has been enjoyable the couple of times I've been there. I've been reading the reviews and can hardly believe they are referring to the same Happy China. So, I'm thinking the place has been remodeled a bit and perhaps has had some cleaning done. I'm told it has been expanded. So, for those of you who were thinking about this restaurant and giving it a try but read the reviews and backed away...give it another chance. The selection of food is awesome and one can eat all the fried stuff or find lots of steamed, sauteed, fresh, or roasted items. So, there you have it...another "voice" heard from enjoying Happy China.
Add CommentPLACE NEEDS CLEANING AND REMODELING VERY BADDDDDDD.....food is very tasty cleaning is a must won't go back until they clean
food is the best tasty I've ever had, but do to the fact it failed the cleaning ttest. i've been there many times in the past, seen roaches climbing the walls, When my husband and kids last went and they saw a mouse run across the fbar in front of the kitchen....no more . please please remodel and clean it up!
Don't bring your husband
I have been going to this resturant for many years for lunch, but I took my husband there, and the waitress came to our table asking my husband if there was anything she could do for him no less than 20 times. I had to tell her I would kick her ass if she showed up again. The next time I felt like going, she was very pregnant, so I guess she found a man who she could help!! Green card seeking psycho!!
And what about the tape on the seats, the poor lighting, and the rude woman who shouts the entire time at the front counter???
This place has gone to hell. Go to Ryce on Dorsett road instead, they have authentic Chinese food, and it is unbelievable, and even cheaper. Can you say REMODEL????
All I can say is the food on the buffet was good. But I would have equally as happy with take out chinese for half the price. The water stain on the
ceiling and the fact that the restaurant hasnt been remodeled since, never?..That was a huge turn off. That is an expensive neighborhood and Happy China looks like it should be located in the hood. Way OVERPRICEDDIrty

The carpets and floors are very dirty -- needs to be redecorated and lightened up. The food is okay but the ambiance needs modernizing.
THE WORST BUFFET EVER

First off whoever rated this buffet good has obviously not eaten there in quite some time. The food was horribly, dried out, and most likely rotten. The smell of the place alone should have made us leave before we ever sat down, But since it was after all voted best buffet by RFT readers, I thought we'd give it a chance, a saturday evening at 7 pm, you would think this is their prime time of business. All of the seafood was completely uneatable, And for $12 per person you would have thought that they might know how to cook anything on the menu, every piece of beef and pork was the fattiest, stringiest thing I have ever tasted. Even the sweet and sour chicken was nasty and over cooked. I don't think that I would feed this junk to my dogs! I highly suggest going to any china buffet BUT this one!
Horrible!

I can't believe that people rate this as 'City's Best'!! It isn't Chinese food. It is gross; nothing by sugar and msg, Americanized mall food. I have been to China several times. I am married to a Chinese woman. Believe me when I tell you, this is NOT Chinese food. If you want real Chinese food, go to Asiana on Olive by the Asian market...
