With decor as garish as a Mardi Gras parade, the Broadway Oyster Bar brings a splash of Creole charm to St. Louis. Above old picnic-type tables, fish with beer bottles in their mouths and garlands around their necks keep an eye on diners in the darkened room. Notes and drawings scribbled on napkins hang on the walls next to old band flyers. The venue also hosts many blues, funk, jazz and Zydeco bands.

People of all ages come here for jambalaya, red beans and rice, Cajun pasta and (of course) oysters. The menu offers everything from oysters on the half-shell to oysters Rockefeller. The choices are actually mindboggeling. Appetizers include potato and yam chips as well as fried alligator. There's also a hefty selection of shrimp dishes, fresh market choices and crawfish creations. The bottled beer is plentiful, and a few are on tap.
