Winstead's has touted their steakburgers (''ground fresh daily from U.S. Choice steak'') as being the best of the best. And they do taste great, but they're pretty thin. If you want a thick burger, make sure to order at least a double, or a triple if you have the dough. The decor is pure '50s diner, complete with a period jukebox filled with Chubby Checker-era hits and waitresses who actually wear waitress uniforms. If you're looking for some real nostalgia food, try the fried egg sandwich, just like Mom used to make. The prices make you nostalgic, too. Winstead's has everyone beat when it comes to soda fountain selections. You can order a malt, a thick shake you'll definitely have to eat with a spoon, or have a vanilla Coke or root beer float. Winstead's is also a great place to sit while you drink endless cups of coffee and people watch.

Buck pdq - 08/03/2008Have eaten at Winstead's 3 times since we moved here in January because people kept telling us how great the burgers were - not only were they thin, tasteless and not very good - the service each time was horrible - they could have cared less that we were there; try Paul's in the inner city - absolutely the best burgers in KC!

whowell11 - 07/22/2008Winstead's does have a good burger but I don't believe they're as good as they were before all the chains popped up. I believe the best burgers around now are Culver's. If you haven't had a Culver's Butter burger, you've got to try them. They are definitely now the best!!
