The Raphael consistently shows up on Kansas City residents' short list of romantic restaurants. Perhaps it's the Raphael's quiet atmosphere and attentive staff. Or maybe it's the private alcove booths and pretty Plaza views. A great wine list and excellent food probably have something to do with it as well. The menu changes frequently, but focuses on French and Continental cuisine with some international influences. For newcomers, breakfast or lunch can be an excellent introduction to the Raphael. Though the overall vibe is not as romantic during daylight hours, the food and service remain excellent and the prices are lower. The restaurant offers many special events throughout the year, including wine tastings and prix fixe meals. The Raphael also hosts dinner parties where guest chefs create menus based on various international themes. Visit the Web site for information on upcoming sessions. -- Anna Foote

The pianoman is wonderful. He knows how to play anything-- from standards to oldies to contemporary. You'll have to go see him sing and play on the weekends.

Is'nt it ROMANTIC!! I always feel likeI am in San Fransisco or Chicago when I dine at the Raphel. Best lamb ever and lots of it!!! The bar is perfect for conversation and intimate "cooing". Always 1st cabin and the service is impeccable evey time. My all time favorite for 21 years and counting. The pre fixe dinners are fabulous and a excellent value to boot. Try this lovely european resturaunt soon... you will fall in love all over again and be pleasantly surprised. Great forgetting away when you can't leave KC!!

I was a bit disappointed with this place considering the price for the suite. Maybe, I was just expecting a bit much based on the other reviews and pictures. First off, parking there is terrible. The continental breakfast was average. Nothing more or better there than any other hotel. The bed was like sleeping on a piece of plywood. Shoot, a piece of plywood is probably more soft as it would bend a bit. (We both had back aches the next day.) Multiple Stains on the couch.... I am not going to even guess what this was from. In the middle of the night, I had to close the bathroom door as sewer gas was coming from it. There were a few goods however to up the stars..... I did like the "antiqueness" of the place and the staff was very friendly and helpfull. The location was also great but to me, just not worth the price. Next time I am in the plaza, I will be looking at other places in the area.

Kansas City's only five star restaurant-no other restaurant in KC comes close. Great food, service, and environment.
