If you've been missing the days when everything was either grilled or deep fried, then Hayes Hamburger & Chili is going to be a special stop. Open since 1955, they haven't changed much. Hayes serves typical diner food, including breakfast, and little mini-burgers, reminiscent of the White Castle burgers. The menu has 65 items, sure to please any palate. The food is nostalgic and good. Hayes Hamburger & Chili is the perfect place to take the kids to show them what life was like ''way back when.''

This is a hambuger "joint" and that is the best place to get burgers. Chili, Chili Mac and breakfast also very good. Not many seats so eat it and beat it. Great coffee! The help is friendly. A step back into the past. A real diner in KC.

The best is the Flea Market in Westport

  • Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives

Hayes is a piece of history. Hamburgers are built and served the old fationed way, meat & onions hit the grill, with the bun on top, then covered with a flat weight where all of the ingredients blend. Last but not least mustard, catsup & pickle go on and you have the perfect burger from the 50's. I prefer a side order of hashbrowns to go along with this piece of history. I wouldn't be surprised to see Guy Fieri wih Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives seen on the Food Network to stroll in any time. My bride and I have been going there for over two decades to live in the past where memories were good and life was simple. Five stars for Hayes.

4 dbl cheese burgers with onion, mustard, and pickle. It doesn"t get any better than that. That was my only regret when I left K.C. 25 years ago!!

  • Grease Burgers

I've lived in the northland for 37 years & have never eaten at Hays. Never wanted to. I've always heard that their hamburgers were pretty greasy. If you don't want cloged arteries, stay clear of this place!
