Cascone is one of the first names that comes to mind when Kansas Citians think Italian. And with three family-owned traditional pasta restaurants scattered across the metro, it should be. But Cascone's Grill is another matter -- the grill would rather be your first thought when it comes to breakfast. And for many regulars, it is. They trek to the City Market for Cascone's fluffy pancakes and for eggs served with spicy Italian sausage or with lightly breaded Italian steak. Some say the biscuits with thick Italian-sausage gravy can't be missed. Folks don't rave as much about lunch, but they pack the house to eat hearty diner fare -- sandwiches, burgers and the like. The tiny diner is especially fun on spring and summer weekends, when you can watch shoppers swarm to the City Market's produce stands. Beware of the place on weekends, though. The lines can be quite long. -- Anna Foote

  • Mean Server

This is a true story, my husband (who is hispanic, I am a KC native) and I used to eat there regularly (4 or 5 times a month) and he would go in before work with friends, etc. One day he went in by himself and sat at the counter. The server was rude and was complaining very loudly about 'why did he choose section', etc. Since there was almost no one else in the place, he assumed she meant him. He had requested an extra order of Roma toast to go with his breadfast and she did not bring it. When he asked her if he could please get the toast, she reached over the counter and offered him someone else's used toast. How rude is that? We have not eaten there since and will NEVER eat there again. My husband is extremely polite, he is also a very good tipper, I have no idea what her problem was. Adios forever!

This is the best place in Kansas City to have a great breakfast. The food is always cooked to my satisfaction. The staff take very good care of their customers. They serve the finest breakfast that I have ever had. I have taken lots of family and friends to eat here and now when they are in town, the first thing they ask is ... "Can we go to Cascone's for breakfast?" If this isn't enough, try the coffee...it is great. I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR A GREAT BREAKFAST. I haven't tried the lunch menu but it always looks good.

Italian food that is so good. I love it. Everything I saw I like. I was a nice place for anybody for any thing. Friendly service with a smile and a wink I was a guess So I didn't paid, but on the menu the price wasn't high. About $7.99. Anything ethnic, spicy and hard-to-identify
