What makes this simple restaurant legendary? The sauce. Restaurant founder Arthur Bryant said, "I make it so you can put it on bread and eat it." And you could, though many folks prefer to pour it on some of Bryant's meat, which is slow smoked over hickory and oak wood. The restaurant is loved most for its short ribs, which are tender, smoky and just short of sublime. But no one complains about the sandwiches, which are good and huge.

Not sure which kind of meat you want? The combo plates are a good choice, because you'll get a variety. Finally, consider the sauce -- you'll have your choice of original or rich-n-spicy. If you don't know which you prefer, order your meat dry. There are bottles of sauce on each table, so you can slather to your liking. Bryant's keeps the sides simple -- choose from baked beans, fries and pickles. One drawback of Bryant's legendary status: During busy times, the lines can snake outside the door and around the building. But all those folks know the wait is well worth it. -- Anna Foote

The new Arthur Bryant's out be the Kansas Speedway lacks the (?)ambiance(?) of the original, but the burnt ends sandwich would still make Arthur proud!

Arthur Bryant's is the best BBQ one will ever taste. But u better get there by 1100 or u will be in a line that runs as smooth as gears with lubricant. The natives know 1100 or bust. In the old days one could see the BBQ sauce cooked by pure sunlight in what looked like a 15-20 gallon glass jug. The atmosphere allows one to feel right at home. Primitave, raw, no pretense here, no sir. The staff is like a well oiled machine. Taking orders n filling them precisely. Through the window one can see the meats asmoking, the fries a frying and the wonder white bread a slapping with the best BBQ sauce around. The best value is to get ur sandwich n fries to go. The portions enough to feed a king for two days. My friends n i frequent this joint each time we pass through Kansas City. Being gone from KC has been like a knife thru the heart. No place thus fare compares to BBQ in KC. It's not BBQ unless u visit this joint.....the best in KC....

  • The Best of the Best

After years of anticipation, I finally experienced Arthur Bryant's BBQ. I am a big BBQ nut and read all the BBQ books. I have been intrigued by AB's descriptions and reviews and they were all right on. It really was the best barbque experience. The ribs seemed to be a litle over cooked but they were some of the best ribs I have ever tasted. This is the way I will try to smoke my own from now on. The meat would fall off the bone and I literally left nothing behind. The original sauce was different in that it had a lot of the rub that you could taste. I loved the rub on the rib but not so much in the sauce. I preferred the Sweet Heat sauce. So much that I bought a bottle when we left. The serving sizes were crazy(very generous). I would describe the atmosphere as rough and primative but completed my bbq experience. You walk in, stand in a line and place your order. You can see the smoker and staff prepare and wrap your order then sit down at a table and enjoy. There was always a line while we were there and moving and it was always moving right along. AB's seemed to attract all walks of life. The diversity of patrons were very interesting. I realize this review is long winded and not well organized but I was just so excited and pleased with Aurtur Bryant's and wanted to let everyone know that if you have a remote chance to experience it don't miss it.
