Legend has it that St. Louis-style pizza dates back to the 1940s, and though one chain in town clearly dominates the landscape, there's a lesser known, mom and pop-type pizza shop that satisfies the local addiction for thin, crispy-crust pizza. This North County restaurant is especially family-friendly, and they'll not only save you when you need a slice fix, they welcome the opportunity to serve the entire ball team (they have plenty of games on hand to keep the kids busy). Plus, adults can sample a beverage or two from the small beer or wine list, so Pirrone's is good if your date likes casual American-Italian food -- including meatball and other sandwiches. Pizzaholics can survive on the Tuesday through Friday lunch buffet (11AM-2PM, $7.99), and swing by for a half-baked pizza and cook it at your convenience.

  • buffet is awesome but!!!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   Bigslick65 - 07/29/2008

the buffet is awesome at this place. they dont skimp on ingredients like most places and they have a great variety. we usually come in on fridays and yes it is very crowded, but where else are you gonna find this quality of pizza plus pasta con broccoli and hot wings not to mention the great salad bar with of all things, artichoke hearts, for that price. yes sometimes when very busy you might have to wait a few minutes for fresh pizza but it is worth it. personally i think it is the fault of the greedy people in line and not the kitchen's fault, because i have been in line many times and watched the first 5 people in line take every piece available with no consideration for the people behind them and that creates a situation where they cant keep up with the demand. hey but that's just my opinion
    for what it's worth :)

  • Love the buffet!!!A+

    Review rating : 5out of 5   luis19756 - 07/11/2008

Wow the buffet is wonderful! I just love coming there and getting the buffet. There is such a variety of pizza that you can't beat it for the price. You also get all you can eat salad and depending on the day you can get toasted ravioli, chicken strips or hot wings as the appetizer. Im pretty sure that tuesday and wednesday is toasted ravioli and thursday is chicken stips and hot wings are on friday but i could be wrong. There is always the same people working the buffet usually, except on wednesday : ( Overall you should try the buffet you don't know what you are missing!!!!!!

  • BEAT PIZZERIA

    Review rating : 5out of 5   GMAPACOE - 07/08/2008

Pirrone,s pizza is so much better than the other pizzerias there is no comparison. Pirrone,s has now enlarged and it includes a banquet room for up to 120 people. Give it a look and you will be impressed with the food and great service.

  • Pizza is good but service and price horrible

    Review rating : 2out of 5   SweetCheriSmile - 07/06/2008

I agree the taste is good..But Stefanina's Pizza is as good, cheaper and the serviceand friendly staff are 10x what Pirrone's is. I think the main problem is if the dining manager is so unprofessional and ungrateful why are you people still going? Obviously she has been complained to management before.
She is probably related to the owner. That is the only intellgent reason I can think of that would allow a buisness owner to keep someone so foul who is effecting their profit margin

  • Pirrone's Pizza Earns an A+ for Pizza for 24 years and 3 generations!

    Review rating : 5out of 5   Secgrtchr - 06/25/2008

Now, to be honest, I like Imo's too, but it would come in down the line behind Roberto's in a disatant second place and Halls Ferry Inn in a far behind third place. (Also North County places)
Over 25 years ago we were first introduced to Pirrone's Pizza by a favorite cousin, who now lives in New Melle. We were relative newlyweds. We brought our parents the next weekend. Tonight we took our newly married daughter and son-in- law there for dinner because they missed the pizza on their two week honeymoon. Nothing was mentioned about missing us though....
But I digress! Since our initial visit, we have introduced this place to many more friends and family members. The place wasn't fancy, but neither were the prices. ( We could go there even without coupons, sit down be served adn have a nice night out!) The waitresses may not all be polished; they may be just ordinary people working to make a living; many young high school kids, some mom's working second jobs and some professional waitresse make up the force. In all the years, we have never had "bad' service, but admittedly some servers are faster, better, cuter and nicer than others; then again so are some coustomers....
In all the years, we have never found a hair or any forign object in any of our orders...just great food!
We watched the restaurant grow to a second location, Pirrone's Around the Corner, which was decorated with a sports theme. ( Which by the way, we miss now that it has been redecorated)
Since I am not one to abandon a good thing, I usually stick to salad and pizza...(Although I do like the breaded mushrooms a LOT!) Only this past Fall I did I ever taste an entree' other than their pizza. I tried the lunch buffet one day, usually I am teaching, but we went on a PDC day. ( Yep, I intorduced MORE people to the place!) It was very good, and there was never a shortage of hot pizza; however the selection was limited to 3 or 4 types of pizza at a time and some emptied quickly, so I tried some of the other choices. Now, this was prior to the remodeling, so there was a wait for a table. We also waited ofr a table, quite a long time, when 12 of us went there one Saturday night for a bachlorette dinner in March. They wouldn't take reservations because they are too busy on the weekends. We all decided it was worth the wait!
Then, in April I was invited to a Bridal Shower in one of the newly opened banquet rooms and had pasta with meat suace and pasta con broccoli. I have to say they were excellent too, especially the red sauce, but I will still continue ordering the pizza!
Now let's address the decor a bit more. The banquet rooms are very nice, and spacious.. It's June now, in May the restaurant expanded in the "Around the Corner" location and the initial location closed. They restaurant dining rooms are subdivided and are clean and redecorated in beige and burgandy but the place isn't fancy by any means. (Like I said, we miss the old Blue's theme. We are Hockey fans though so.....However we were able to watch the Cardinals game while we ate tonight. )
The location in the Valley, they say is on hold. My fear is that like so many places in NOrth County, they may relocate and then forget us....that would be very sad, because Pirrone's is a tradition...we have celebrated after dance recitles, graduations, anniversaries and birthdays and cried after funerals there. Whenever we call friends to discuss where to meet them for dinner, those in the Valley, O'Fallon or even those in New Melle, have no objections to driving the distance to eat at Pirrone's. Which is great for us, because we save a lot in gas costs for our car!
Let's be realistic. Mom and pops place couldn't survive all of these years; though hard times and good times, if they weren't doing something right...so believe the negative reviews or trust the honest ones. If you haven't tried this place you are missing the best pizza I have had in 54 years of life! I LOVE thin crust pizzas..but the secret here is the crust, or is it the sauce? No, I think it is the combination of the cheeses.... it really is wonderful.

  • WAITRESS ATTITUDE IS THE PITTS

    Review rating : 1out of 5   Canugiveittome2 - 06/23/2008

WOW! We went there with my future inlaws. The food was great but the STAFF WAS HORRIBLE DOWN RIGHT HORRIBLE. I felt like they were doing me a favor waiting on us. My fiance says this is where they come weekly every sunday it is a tradition. WOW that will be one that I will not attend. They were so rude. The waitress even said only a 8.00 tip how cheap. Our bill was 42.00 even. So I WILL NOT GO THERE AGAIN WHAT AN AWFUL PLACE FOR BEING TREATED THAT WAY. I WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR THIS PLACE TO BE NUMBER ONE GET SOME NEW FRIENDLY PEOPLE

  • THE BEST PIZZA IN STL

    Review rating : 5out of 5   loveusomuch4sure - 06/23/2008

Pirrones is absolutely wonderful!!!! Their food is wonderful and filling! I love their salads so much and all of their appetizers are amazing. I would reccomend that everyone try pirrones. They have something for everyone! They should open multiple locations (St.Charles). They just remodeled and it is so much better! Very Nice! There are a couple waitresses there who should probably be fired, especially the waitress manager. But there are a lot of good waitresses who are always nice! (Jen and Stephanie are two that I remember) I have seen the girl who is manager yell at people and be unprofessional and she (not gonna say her name, so I dont put her out there like that) needs to lead by professional example. The only other thing that they should change is the uniforms. But none of that has to do with the food because it is absolutely wonderful!!!! The buffet is good as well, you can make your own salad (even though they make it really good!) and go back to the buffet and get as much more as you want. Everyone needs to try pirrones and if you don't like it you are wierd....

  • Disturbed

    Review rating : 5out of 5   LoyalCus - 06/22/2008

I am a very long time customer of this place and I decided I had to write something in opposition of the negative comments. I am quite disturbed at the NEED BETTER ATTITUDE comment. The thing that bothers me the most is that if you are so displeased with this waitress, why do you keep leaving instead of saying something to the manager or simply just request another waitress? By saying that this place needs better waitstaff you are doing it an injustice, since you simply leave and do not try another waitress. We just so happen to ask for the same waitress everytime and we are always taken care of very well! When our waitress is not there, we have had equally good service from servers that work there. I happen to know exactly which waitress you are speaking of and you are correct, she is horrible and not at all skilled in handing people. She also happens to be the dinging room "manager" which is a shame in my opinion,. I have heard her be very demeaning and blatently criticize customers for being "cheap" in the middle of the dining room. There are MANY MANY other waitresses there that have more class and skills that would do a MUCH better job then her. Our waitress has been there for years and is VERY good at her job. Although she is not perfect, I have never seen her be rude or out right mean to a customer or co worker and think she would do 200 percent better. As far as the rest of the wait staff goes, overall they are curtious and try to keep customers happy and do a very well job. There are a few that are at times not so great, but everyone has an off day. Besides, being that the one is a "manager", one can only expect that with her training the newbies there would be a less then pleasant experience now and then.
To sum all of this up, I realize that not everyone likes the same things, but I do believe that this Pizzaria is one of the best little known secrets in town! You should at least give it a try!! As I said before, we have been going for years and will go as long as we are breathing! It is a generous amount of food at afair price. We love it!! To others that leave reviews...Please try not to generalize everyone into one group. Get names and use them! That will make a HUGE difference I am sure to the owners of any eating establishment and how they run it! I think it is very hurtful and wrong to just criticize everyone rather then take the time to find out who the problem is. To Pirrones...WE LOVE YOU AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!! (By the way.....So I am not seen as a Hypocrite.... Our waitress is Jennifer)
