Even longtime Original Pancake House patrons are surprised to learn that these suburban breakfast hot spots are actually part of a family-owned restaurant chain with nearly 100 locations in 24 states. The ''original'' Original Pancake House was founded in 1953 and is located in Portland, Ore., where owners Les Highget and Erma Hueneke first started experimenting with ethnic pancake recipes. In this market, the Original Pancake House is a recipe for success. Despite the constant hustle of the staff and the constant din reverberating off the hardwood floors, the overall attitude is relaxed enough for you to read the morning news and linger over coffee after ingesting one of the signature apple pancakes. You'll frequently have to wait to be seated, even on weekday mornings, but one bite of the Original's Dutch Baby (an air-infused baked pancake served with lemon, whipped butter and a dusting of powdered sugar) and the memory wil simplly disappear.

Originally started going to The Original Pancake House IN Portland OR on Barbur where the food is the best. I was thrilled when I moved to the TC's and found them HERE ! ! Food remains great, very busy but ALWAYS worth the wait ( i always call ahead ). Too bad there is not a 'community table' for the single diners ( no, just out to eat as one! )

The souflee omlets are as good as it gets and the pancakes are delicious.

By far, the best breakfast!
I have eaten at the Maple Grove store many times. BEWARE - the wait is long, but you can call ahead to put your name on the list. It's obvious why they are so busy - the food is awesome! They have the best hashbrowns ever. I haven't had a pancake there that I didn't like, and the French toast is phenominal. It's a great place for kids - they have good sized childrens meals at a decent price.
Don't mistake this place for IHOP - Don't even say them in the same sentence . You will not be disappointed if you eat here!OPH is not IHOP!
Someone has their acronyms mixed up on the 6/25/2007 review. I go to Original Pancake House every chance I get, but I've been to IHOP once and that was enough. They are two completely different chains.
How did IHOP even rate on this
IHOP is ok, IF you do not have any tastebuds, YECH!!! I have not seen Fat Nat's on this list yet. You want good food go there, not IHOP.
Everything was good except....
This is for the one in Maple Grove. The food is good and the service was fast and friendly. But when I pay my check (at the table) when I put out my $20 bill to pay for a $10ish check, they have on more than one occaision asked if I wanted my change. Milking the customers for tips (huge ones in my case) leaves a good meal tasting sour.

Wonderful Swedish pancakes with lingonberry sauce. Even the decaf coffee is flavorful and not bitter. Cozy atmosphere and well worth the drive.
