Jax Caf? has been serving steaks and seafood since 1933, shortly after they received the cities second liquor license after prohibition. This Minneapolis landmark has been serving Minnesotans and visitors alike for over three generations. Prime Rib, Bone in Steer Tenderloin and New York Strip steaks are menu staples. If fresh fish and seafood are your fancy you can order live Maine Lobster from their saltwater tank or net your own Rainbow Trout from their Olde World Garden stream (April-October). Be sure to ask to have your name (or guests name) imprinted on the complimentary matchbook. The dining room service is second to none.

NEVER AGAIN
Lakotaladi - 09/02/2008Having booked reservations for a special occasion, we ordered lobster, which was spoiled, as in rotten. The smell was evident when it was brought to the table. The other members of the party ordered steak which was served at the same time as the rancid lobster. There was no apology, no compensation for ruining the entire dinner party. Nothing. NEVER NEVER AGAIN.

GaryM55379 - 07/25/2008This used be a family favorite, but the last experience was to say the least sad. The wait staff was inattentive you had to beg for service when you could find them, the food was not done correctly, over done steaks, over done baked potatoes and even mix-ups on the salads. When management was informed of the issues the reply was âSo what do I have to do to make it rightâ, in a tone that said tough luck go sit down. The only pleasant part of our experience was the piano player. We have removed Jax Café from our recommended list and will find other places to send our money.

This has been my favorite restaurant since I was a kid. Anyone who doesn't like it doesn't know a first class establishment when they see one.

pimpchimp777 - 06/15/2007I went there before prom with a huge group of people because i heard good things about it. The waitress took my glass of pop away and refilled it 3 times (when the glass wasnt even half gone yet) and never told us that there werent free refills. Then charged us a total of 40 dollars for drinks alone!! When we asked her to change our bill she refused and said she didn't have any time to talk to her manager about it. The food was average and not worth our money either. I will never go there again because of the horrible service for a restaurant that looks like a nice place to eat.

Stood the test of time
anvildancr - 04/29/2007I went there for prom 36 years ago, and it is better now than it was then. Great food, great service, in an classic neighborhood setting. They serve all the classics with great selections of wine and other fare.
