Wondering why Dave Anderson is ''famous?'' How about because he's a marketing genius, not to mention he puts out a fairly good spread. With all kinds of clubs to join and products to buy through Dave's chain, however, the eats are in peril of having less significance than the restaurant's name. The barbecue may not challenge whatever tops your 'Best I've Ever Had' list -- it's often a hit-and-miss dining encounter -- but what's lacking in food superiority is made up for in fun and friendly, expert service. Every venue is cheerful and ideal for families, couples or the after-work gang. Besides ribs, there's a little of everything on the menu, including catfish, beef brisket, pulled chicken sandwiches and burgers. Groups can order rib ''feasts'' and kids get their own menu. Portions are ample enough to make you think twice about ordering dessert or another brew. The chain's popularity has created another distinction -- many locations now offer the ubiquitous drive-through for the time-challenged. When you want live music and dancing with your BBQ, the big Calhoun Square location in Uptown is where you'll find blues and other sounds performed nightly by top artists. -- John Sharpe

    I have traveled a bit an eaten in some pretty good joints but Dave's has there own special touch that keeps you going back. I like the uptown location the best, the live music makes it an event. They have been running more than just the blues lately so the steady diet of old blues standards is changing for the best.

    unless you don't wanna become hooked! I am from Texas, and have eaten BBQ in North Carolina, Georgia, even Nevada, Utah, and Minnesota. The slowest smoked beef brisket is at Famous Daves, the best ribs in the world are found at Dave's, the most tender rib-tips... Dave's, and the best service staff I have experienced has been at Famous Dave's BBQ in Utah and Minnesota. oh and they have like 5 BBQ SAUCES, great drinks, and the blues, it's a fun place!!!

    They have great Chicago blues bands every weekend. They definitely have the best blues in town. Who cares if it isn't the best BBQ in the world? Who cares if it's a chain?

    Give me a break, I travel and I know good BBQ - this town does not have it and Famous Dave's is just awful. Take a road trip to Kansas City or Chicago or Memphis, then you'lll know what bad BBQ the twin Cities has.
