While the Block E complex works at livening up the downtown Minneapolis entertainment scene, one of its tenants is doing its part to add dining appeal to the project. The owners of Block E's snazzy Escape Ultra Lounge are behind a second venture, this large (250 seats), upscale restaurant. The Bellanotte ("beautiful night") dining room is both expansive and appealing, a blend of warm colors, dark wood and beautiful glass and onyx fittings. In the summer, a sizeable patio gives outdoor diners a front row, albeit noisy, view of urban happenings. The Italian-inspired menu here is also considerable. Veal piccata, osso buco and linguine with clams are just several of the many dishes offered alongside various pastas, risottos, seafood and pizzas. There are a lot of choices on the wine list, as well -- almost 200 -- with about 20 of them available by the glass. Entrees and wine prices can be spendy, and certainly will be when ordered together, yet this is an excellent pre-theater or dinner date destination. You can make a stylish night of it with a meal here, followed by a short trek to the nightclub.
